“United We Stand In Diversity”- The 6th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts

The 6th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts was held on the 10th of October 2015 at the Police Families Welfare Association, Colombo 5. On behalf of our club Rtr. Praveen Fernando, Rtr. Nilukshi Jayawardena and Rtr. Kasun Mullegamgoda attended the event.

The event commenced with the lighting of the oil lamp by the dignitaries at the head table, followed by the Rotaract Invocation, Flag Salutation, Four Way Test and the Rotaract Anthem.

The Welcome address was given by the Vice President Rtr. Piumi Wijesundara followed by the Secretary’s Report for the year 2014/2015 by Rtr. Umesh Moramudali. It was presented as an interesting video clip including photographs of the events and moments they’ve treasured. Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts has been successful in completing some amazing projects in the past year including,

Outgoing President Rtr. Atarah Senn

Next up was the address by the Outgoing President Rtr. Atarah Senn. In her speech, she thanked all the club members for their commitment and dedication in achieving the set targets for the year and mentioned about the ups and downs that her club had to go through during the past year and how her dynamic Board of Directors had been a huge support to make her year a success.

Next she collared the Incoming President Rtr. Charya Gamalath and officially handed over all the duties and responsibilities of the post.

The introduction to the Incoming President was followed by a short video clip about the President. It also included comments and wishes from her batch mates. After her speech the new Board for the year 2015/2016 was inducted.

The gathering was then addressed by the DRR PHF Rtr. Sathyendra Tharmakulerajasingam. He started his speech with the quote; “People who shine from themselves don’t need light”.

He mentioned about “Glass Ice” which was organized by our club in partnership with the Leo Club of Negambo Host. He stated that “Glass Ice” is the biggest Professional Development Project so far and if anyone missed it, it’s a big loss.

District Rotaract Committee Chair Rtn. PP. Saifuddin Adamaly congratulated the Outgoing President and also wished all the best for the new President. His speech was about why university based clubs should join Rotary without wasting youth energy and personality.

After that, the audience was entertained by a beautiful singing item, which was presented by the members of the Club.

Youth Services Chair Rtn. PHF Farzana Khan addressed the gathering while highlighting the importance of new thinking and through that deciding the person you want to be. She also mentioned about Gender balance in Rotaract Clubs.

The Guest of Honor for the evening Rtn. PHF Jegatheesan Pirrasanth told that he is proud to be a part of the Club. He extracted a Whatsapp message and mentioned that we must never hide our potential.

The Chief Guest for the evening, The Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Athula Ranasinghe mentioned in his speech that attending the Rotaract Club installation has become a part of his agenda and it’s good to see that university students join these kinds of activities to improve their soft skills. He also mentioned that it’s a responsibility of university students to carry out such social activities.

The 6th Installation Ceremony came to an end with the Felicitations. The Vote of Thanks was given by the Secretary for the year 2015/2016 Rtr. Jinanji Senanayake. After the National Anthem, the house was called to order for refreshments and Fellowship.
