The Annual Car Wash organized by the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo (RACUOCFMF) was successfully held on the 12th of January 2019, near the BRC grounds from 9.30am to 2.30pm. This annual event is typically planned in aid of a main “Community Service Project” carried out by our club, and this year it was held primarily in aid of project “Wasath Sarani”. This benevolent project mainly aims to provide a “Pure Drinking Water Supply System” to the residents of a village in Malsiripura located in Kurunegala district.
Behind the success of this financing project, stood our enthusiastic club members backed by the organizing committee which coordinated everything smoothly. The ticket sales of the event, which was most satisfactorily done, was commenced approximately a week prior to the car wash.Ticket sales were done in many areas within Colombo and this helped us in raising awareness about the project as well.
It was a great pleasure to witness the generosity extended by a part of our community who were kind enough to purchase a ticket and help us brighten the lifestyle of another part of the same community in our own country. The purchase of tickets by little kids who don’t even drive a vehicle of their own was a fascinating sight indeed.
The car wash commenced as planned and the vehicle turn up was a step ahead than the expectations of our club. The creative handmade posters were a reason for this, as the project’s objectives were emphasized and the wordings were perfect as to draw the attention of the vehicles passing by. Despite the scorching sun, all members fulfilled their duties ensuring success while thoroughly enjoying themselves in the process.
Our day came to an end with the last few liters of water being used up to wash for the worthy cause. A sense of accomplishment was felt by us as the outcome of the efforts put in by all throughout, both before and during the day turned out be profitable. Besides, it should be mentioned that many of them who got their vehicles washed did not forget to make an extra monetary contribution to this great cause.
We are glad to have been able to successfully tick the checkbox of one of the milestones along the journey of project “Wasath Sarani.” In conclusion, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who assisted in this regard in whichever the possible ways.
