We at RACUOCFMF implemented the project “MY ABC 2.0” under the International Service Avenue which was a continuation of the project that commenced in the year 2021, that intended to improve the English language skills of the students in underprivileged schools all over Sri Lanka. With the collaboration of various foreign clubs, we were able to extend this project not only in Sri Lanka but also in countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, and India. The foreign clubs that rendered their helping hands were; the Rotaract Club of VIIT, India, RAC Dejen, Ethiopia, Rotaract Club of Mulund Hill View, India, and Rotaract Club of Bahari Mombasa, Kenya. The project commenced in October to celebrate World Children’s Day and continued till 20th December under three phases. It was a three months endeavor that became a success having made a great impact on students’ life.
RACUOCFMF හි අපි “MY ABC 2.0” ව්යාපෘතිය ජාත්යන්තර සේවා Avenue යටතේ ක්රියාත්මක කළෙමු. එය 2021 වර්ෂයේදී ආරම්භ කරන ලද ව්යාපෘතියේ අඛණ්ඩ පැවැත්මක් වන අතර එය ශ්රී ලංකාව පුරා සිටින අඩු වරප්රසාද ලත් පාසල්වල සිසුන්ගේ ඉංග්රීසි භාෂා කුසලතා වැඩිදියුණු කිරීමට අදහස් කරන ලදී. විවිධ විදේශීය සමාජයන්ගේ සහයෝගීතාවයෙන් මෙම ව්යාපෘතිය ශ්රී ලංකාවේ පමණක් නොව කෙන්යාව, ඉතියෝපියාව සහ ඉන්දියාව වැනි රටවල ව්යාප්ත කිරීමට අපට හැකි විය. උදව් උපකාර කළ විදේශීය සමාජ ශාලා වූයේ; ඉන්දියාවේ VIIT හි රොටරැක්ට් සමාජය, ඉතියෝපියාවේ ආර්ඒසී ඩෙජෙන්, ඉන්දියාවේ මුලුන්ඩ් හිල් වීව් හි රොටරැක්ට් සමාජය සහ කෙන්යාවේ බහාරි මොම්බාසා හි රොටරැක්ට් සමාජය. ලෝක ළමා දිනය සැමරීම සඳහා මෙම ව්යාපෘතිය ඔක්තෝම්බර් මාසයේදී ආරම්භ වූ අතර අදියර තුනක් යටතේ දෙසැම්බර් 20 දක්වා පැවතුනි. එය මාස තුනක උත්සාහයක් වූ අතර එය සිසුන්ගේ ජීවිතයට විශාල බලපෑමක් ඇති කරමින් සාර්ථක විය.
RACUOCFMF இல் நாங்கள் “MY ABC 2.0” என்ற திட்டத்தை சர்வதேச சேவை அவென்யூவின் கீழ் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தினோம், இது 2021 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட திட்டத்தின் தொடர்ச்சியாகும், இது இலங்கை முழுவதிலும் உள்ள பின்தங்கிய பள்ளிகளில் உள்ள மாணவர்களின் ஆங்கில மொழித் திறனை மேம்படுத்தும் நோக்கத்துடன் இருந்தது. பல்வேறு வெளிநாட்டு கிளப்களின் ஒத்துழைப்புடன், இந்த திட்டத்தை இலங்கையில் மட்டுமல்ல, கென்யா, எத்தியோப்பியா மற்றும் இந்தியா போன்ற நாடுகளிலும் விரிவாக்க முடிந்தது. தங்கள் உதவிக் கரங்களை வழங்கிய வெளிநாட்டு கிளப்புகள்; ரோட்ராக்ட் கிளப் ஆஃப் விஐஐடி, இந்தியா, ஆர்ஏசி டெஜென், எத்தியோப்பியா, ரோட்ராக்ட் கிளப் ஆஃப் முலுண்ட் ஹில் வியூ, இந்தியா மற்றும் ரோட்ராக்ட் கிளப் ஆஃப் பஹாரி மொம்பாசா, கென்யா. உலகக் குழந்தைகள் தினத்தைக் கொண்டாடும் வகையில் அக்டோபரில் இந்தத் திட்டம் தொடங்கப்பட்டு, டிசம்பர் 20 வரை மூன்று கட்டங்களாகத் தொடர்ந்தது. மாணவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் பெரும் தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்திய மூன்று மாத முயற்சி வெற்றி பெற்றது.
As the first phase of the project, an underprivileged school from the Western Province was selected. We found a school in the Colombo district where the students heavily lacked knowledge of English. So we implemented the project starting from 18th October in the selected school called Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya, Erawwala. Here we conducted four English teaching workshops continuously for four days until the 21st of October for about 90 students in grade nine. We, the members of Rotaract and our friends gave immense support to give the best English education that we can deliver to those young kids. With the printed tutes and the other study materials that we were able to gather, we were able to carry out the sessions more effectively. We hope that our own brothers and sisters were able to gain the quality English education they were quite lacking, throughout the entire four sessions that we were able to conduct. Not only to learn English, but also got the opportunity to engage in various fun games and activities in which they were really interested. On the last day, we gave them a small unexpected treat which they were quite surprised and elated too.
Moving away from Western Province, the second phase of MY ABC 2.0 was implemented in Galle, Southern Province. It was again an underprivileged school in an area called Pitadeniya where some students were suffering from malnutrition too. The school was Pitadeniya Maha Vidyalaya. We conducted an English teaching workshop for about 30 students in grade three. A fully interactive session was conducted with those small kids while doing lots of fun activities and teaching them basic English. The kids loved the most friendly and interactive sessions we conducted while the staff in that school was really supportive too. After 4 hours of an unforgettable session, some stationary items and a small snack were given to the students from the donations we collected. It was really happy to see the smiling faces of these little souls.
Finally, the third phase was implemented in Chilaw, Eastern Province. We selected an underprivileged school called Kakkapalliya Siri Sujatha Vidyalaya, Chilaw where we taught English to about 30 students in grades 4 and 5. One day was spent there with them and we were able to conduct some fun games with the kids here too. They were also so delighted and satisfied with the gifts given to them.
With the three phases concluded successfully, we were able to mark the end of this heartwarming project MY ABC 2.0. It was the greatest pleasure for us to see how the students engaged in the sessions enthusiastically and enjoyed them the same way we did.
