It was a bright day filled with wishes and hopes to meet the fellow rotaractors after the pandemic for the 2nd time through “The meetup 2.0”. Thanks to the directors of the sports avenue Rtr. Randika and Rtr. Haritha that dream came true. The event was planned to begin at 12.30 but there were barely six people present at the uni sports center by that time. However, a few minutes later our beloved president “Responsible Arshad” dropped a message in the WhatsApp group saying “Oyala katha kra kra inna winadi 5n api enwa”, even though it took more than 15 minutes for him to arrive. We started off at about 1.30 p.m. by dividing everyone into 4 groups to play dodgeball and cricket with the respective groups with the team leaders Rtr. Haritha, Rtr. Harith, Rtr. Navinda and Rtr. Visula.

The court was first open for dodgeball and Rtr.Harith gave us a good briefing of the dos and don’ts. Teams were so enthusiastic hitting up the opponent rotaractors so hard with the softballs as if they were gonna overcome some inner furies. An important part that should be highlighted was how Rtr. Kethni herself defended the dodgeball attacks from the well-built rotaractors from the opposing team in the finals. Next up was the cricket tournament. Ground rules were to allow two girls from each team to bowl two overs and the batsmen to bat with their unfamiliar hand. It took us only a few minutes to realize that the ground rules were backfiring at the competent players of the team as soon as the game started. However, we were able to witness good sixes, fascinating fours, a fair amount of runs, and a couple of wides too.
Next up on the line was the futsal game. A few minutes before the game, our dear secretary Rtr. Oshadhi made a grand entrance, giving a good boost to the game. The game started off after everyone was divided into two groups and Rtr. Afkar, Rtr. Harith, Rtr. Navinda, Rtr. Altaf, Rtr. Adeesha, Rtr. Rihan and Rtr. Janul were the main highlights of the game. The boys were a little too invested in futsal that Arshad aiya had to finally ask “Afkar mekata passe iwarai nedaa??” around thrice. Most of the girls barely knew what the game was about. However, that was a good reason for them to gossip at the corner of the stadium.
Unexpectedly as we had some time remaining we decided to play dog and the bone and it was the highlight of the day because it was the game that was breathtaking and the most entertaining.
The two teams had quite a battle in getting that bone to their side that a few of our rotaractors including Rtr.Vishvi and Rtr. Mindya herself took the phrase “fall face first” a little too seriously and literally fell on their faces. Well talking about the falls Rtr. Anuji never failed to kiss the ground for more than a couple of times proving that failures are the best way to rise up with more strength and courage. We are really grateful that despite a few falls here and there no one was injured even though we had a good laugh.
Finally, we took the long-awaited group picture and at the end of the day, we never forgot to celebrate the cake day of Rtr. Sandali before saying goodbye.
It was a fun and memorable day to remember and it proved by the fact that the two of us who came with hopes to be a part of the non-existing cheerleading squad but ended up playing all the sports and getting a good workout in a while
“People who sweat together stick together”
As every good thing has an end, the meet-up ended with the hope of another physical event.
