සූර්ය මංගල්‍යය 2023

When you ask Rotaract club members about their best and most memorable moments from university life, they fondly recount that half of these cherished memories come from the incredible Rotaract events they attended. And there’s one standout occasion: last April, a special event was organized exclusively for Rotaractors, bringing together a plethora of joyful and unforgettable memories. It was a remarkable gathering that added another layer of happiness to their university journey.

Project Surya Mangalya 2023 was implemented by RACUOCFMF under the Sports and Recreational Activities Avenue as a continuation project which is considered the Avurudu Celebration of the Club. It was held on the 22nd of April at United Sports Club ground in Maharagama. The event made an opportunity for all of the club participants to have fun, get rid of their stressful minds, and develop their relationships furthermore.

The event was hosted by Rtr. Kalindu Mihiranga and Rtr. Ajini Onethra. So this amazing event began with the ritual of pouring milk with more than 90 participants. While the committee members were engaged in that Rtr. Kaveesha, Rtr. Chalitha and Rtr. Sachindu sang a beautiful song to fill the hearts of all those present with the warmth of the New Year.

Afterward, the committee members led everyone to the most delightful moment of the event: the opening of the New Year sweets table. Hungry and eager, everyone savored the delicious Awurudu food before diving into the games with great enthusiasm. It was clear that their appetites were satisfied, as only empty plates remained. The festivities kicked off with the exciting game “Aliyata asa thabeema.” Rtr. Lakshan won the game becoming the greatest blind hero. At the same time, while one group was having fun, the other group was eagerly preparing for a game “Kana Mutti Bideema”. However, the මුට්ටි බිදින්න හපනා, Rtr.Sashith could win the game adding another step to his Guinness record.

Then, Rtr.Nawodi and her team presented a wonderful dance performance, attracting the attention of all attendees. After enjoying the dance, the group turned to another fun game, balloon catching. It was very lovely to watch the water-filled balloons move around in the hands of our players who were lined up in a row, and the expressions on their faces when they burst. In the end, the lovely couple Rtr. Yasith and Rtr. Uvini could win the game. It seemed they have been practicing catching balloons for quite some time.

Then the group turned to another game, musical hat swapping. All the members formed a big circle and started swapping hats. Slowly one by one they left and Rtr. Sashith and Rtr. Rashmi remained. Somehow Rtr. Rashmi managed to win. By then, our pot hero must have realized that he can’t keep records in every game. In this way, another great game, the musical chair competition, started. Our players competed very strategically by falling on each other in order to save a chair for themselves. Rtr. Binula always used to go and sit on a girl’s lap. Anyway Rtr. Chaluka was able to keep his chair until the end. Also we saw his amazing dancing skills during the game.

After that, committee members set the stage for another game; “Dance on Paper”, reserved for the loving couples. Our single friends seemed very remorseful. It was lovely to see how our boys competed by lifting up their girls like toddlers. However, another nice couple Rtr.Thurya and Rtr.Chirath could won the game. After that, everyone took a short break for lunch. After increasing their energy, everyone gathered again at the ground. Again, the last half of the event started with a beautiful dance. So, the group went to the game called “Andayata kiri kawima”. Rtr. Malith and Rtr. Agra were able to become the couple who can eat kiri very fast.

The next game was the game that everyone liked and waited which is “Pani bamara”. The audience had a lot of fun watching the contestants keep their heads on a stick and spin for ten rounds and fall around and run. There we saw how the people went on all fours without alcohol. After that, the group started the game of carrying the lemon on the spoon. Rtr. Denith who has balancing things skill could win the game. Then the guys moved to a three-legged game. Rtr. Binula and Rtr. Nethuni could win the game though Nethuni had no idea what to do when Binula ran like a horse without caring for his partner’s leg. The organizers were surprised to see couples who ran faster than they thought, keeping one leg free and tying the other leg together with their partner’s leg.

Anyway, we reached the final stage of the event.“Aurudu Kumariya” and “Aurudu Kumara” competitions started with the handsome and beautiful contestants of RACUOCFMF. There, the compere Rtr. Kalindu managed to make the game flow beautifully by asking their information and asking fun questions from contestants. Rtr. Malawana won Avurudu Kumaraya while Rtr. Dinuka and Rtr. Mishan became the runner-up and 3rd place respectively. We could see the marvelous dancing skills of those boys anyway. Avurudu Kumariya was won by the incredibly charismatic, well dancer Rtr. Nawodi and the runners-up and 3rd place went to Rtr. Yasali and Rtr. Kaveesha orderly. So gifts were given to them and the winners of other games were also given gifts.

Ultimately, everyone danced to the DJ music and dispersed with great fun. Participant’s faces reflect that efforts of the organizing committee were far from being in vain. In that way, Project Surya Mangalya 23′ was successfully completed with the collective effort and support of all the members of Rotaract club of the University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance.
