Our intuition contains so much intellect that, when joined with our creativity and conscious logical thinking, it may produce a genius that astounds everyone. And we are all capable of it. And that is why Rotaractors strive to bring out that genius, spending a little more time, patience, and a generous helping of love to find the gifts that God has given each of us, like seeds waiting for sun and rain, because we believe that everyone is perfect for something. With great pleasure we introduce to you, the exceptional projects that were carried out by our own Rotaractors and were recognized and awarded at the 32st Rotaract District Training Assembly, under the Rotary focus area of “Basic Education and Literacy”
අපගේ ප්රතිභානයෙහි කොතරම් බුද්ධියක් තිබේද යත්, අපගේ නිර්මාණශීලීත්වය සහ තාර්කික චින්තනය සමඟ සම්බන්ධ වූ විට, එය සෑම කෙනෙකුම මවිතයට පත් කරන ප්රතිභාවක් ඇති කළ හැකිය. ඒ වගේම අපි හැමෝම ඒකට දක්ෂයි. තව කාලය ගත කරමින් , ඉවසීමෙන් සහ ආදරයෙන්, ත්යාගශීලීව, උපකාරයක් කරමින් අප ඒ ප්රාණවත් බව එළියට ගන්න උත්සාහ කරන්නේ, හිරු වැස්ස එනතුරු බලා සිටින බීජ මෙන්, අප සෑම කෙනෙකුටම ලබා දී ඇති දායාදයන් සොයා ගැනීමටය.සෑම කෙනෙකුම යමක් සඳහා පරිපූර්ණ බව අප විශ්වාස කරන බැවින්ය. “මූලික අධ්යාපනය සහ සාක්ෂරතාව” යන රොටරි කේන්ද්රීය අංශය යටතේ 32 වන රොටරැක්ට් දිස්ත්රික් පුහුණු රැස්වීමේදී අපගේම රොටරැක්ටර්වරුන් විසින් සිදු කරන ලද සහ ඇගයීමට ලක් කරන ලද සුවිශේෂී ව්යාපෘති ඉතා සතුටින් අපි ඔබට හඳුන්වා දෙන්නෙමු.
நமது உள்ளுணர்வு மிகவும் புத்திசாலித்தனத்தைக் கொண்டுள்ளது, நமது படைப்பாற்றல் மற்றும் தர்க்கரீதியான சிந்தனையுடன் இணைந்தால், அது அனைவரையும் வியக்க வைக்கும் ஒரு மேதையை உருவாக்கக்கூடும். நாம் அனைவரும் அதற்குத் திறமையானவர்கள். அதனால்தான் ரோட்டராக்டர்கள் அந்த மேதையை வெளிக்கொணர முயற்சி செய்கிறார்கள்.சிறிது நேரம், பொறுமை மற்றும் அன்பின் தாராளமான உதவியை செலவழித்து, கடவுள் நம் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் கொடுத்த பரிசுகளைக் கண்டுபிடிக்க, வெயிலுக்கும் மழைக்கும் காத்திருக்கும் விதைகளைப் போல, நாங்கள் நம்புகிறோம். காரணம்,ஒவ்வொருவரும் எதற்காவது சரியானவர்கள். “அடிப்படைக் கல்வி மற்றும் எழுத்தறிவு” என்ற ரோட்டரி மையப் பகுதியின் கீழ், 32வது ரோட்டராக்ட் மாவட்டப் பயிற்சிக் கூட்டத்தில் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்டு விருது பெற்ற, எங்கள் சொந்த ரோட்டராக்டர்களால் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட விதிவிலக்கான திட்டங்களை மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் உங்களுக்கு அறிமுகப்படுத்துகிறோம்.
Gold Award – Rotaract Club of Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo – Sagna 2.0
Project “Sagna 2.0” is a project that was conducted by our own Rotaractors of Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. It was a wonderful project that mainly focused its attention on the deaf community and comprised 4 main phases.
Under phase 1 of the project, a curriculum was developed for medical students which enabled them to communicate with deaf people in medical emergencies. This phase of the project helped to equip medical students with basic communication skills to deal with deaf patients. A user-friendly guidebook and a video series were also attached to the course to help learn sign language from scratch.
Under phase 2, a video was composed on the above curriculum and was integrated into the medical undergraduate program. It helped them acquire knowledge of basic vocabulary in Asian Sign Language, acquire skills to introduce themselves and initiate a conversation using sign language, acquire skills to identify essential day-to-day scenarios of a hearing-impaired person, and acquire basic skills to identify a medical emergency of a hearing-impaired person.
Phase 3 of the project was focused on creating an informative video series on the financial sector, fundamental laws and common health issues for the deaf community which was published through YouTube.
And phase 4 is to request island-wide top supermarket networks to integrate and teach the relevant signs that they require.
Project “Sagna 2.0” was a great project that provided a voice to the deaf community and we at RACUOCFMF are proud of our own sisters and brothers at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo who made a change and strived for the betterment of all humans.
Silver – E-mithudama – Rotaract Club of Informatics Institute of Technology
E-Mithudama is a signature project which was organized by the Professional Development Avenue of Rotaract Club of IIT, which was Based on the central goal of assisting school children from underserved areas of the country in supporting and improving their computer literacy. Rotaract Club of IIT was inspired by the opportunity they could provide by partnering up with Unilever Sri Lanka Limited to deliver the younger generation of our country the touch of advanced technology that the world is currently experiencing.
Initially, they went on a search for schools that have the bare minimum of resources to maintain desktops and laptops. The devices that are left over after the device refresh that Unilever Sri Lanka Limited performs at the end of each year were then safely removed and delivered with the fully-fledged labs; X-Labs set up at each school.
Bronze – Sneha – Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School
The Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School implemented yet another inspiring initiative with the Project “Sneha”, which aimed at providing education for the kids living in Kirulapona, Koombi Kale’s slum areas.
With the Covid-19 situation in the country, the project was conducted virtually. Be it physical or virtual, the wonderful project was able to brighten up the little souls that lived in the slum areas. With the club members that volunteered in the project, a series of virtual classes were conducted through zoom for the kids every day. It is a pleasure to mention that most of the kids were actively joining all the classes, while some students became the favorites of the club members. Accordingly, classes were conducted for Mathematics, Science, English, Business Studies and Accounting, Sinhala, and IT for grades 6 to 11 in all three mediums (English, Sinhala, and Tamil). The kids were also able to take part in the “Empowered Rangers” group, where they got the opportunity to engage in a variety of thrilling and fulfilling group activities.
Project “Sneha” was such a wonderful project, where our Rotaractors were able to lend a hand to a group of little souls who were thriving to be the best versions of themselves. Cheers to the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School for completing such an impactful project reaching huge success.
Bronze – Akankara – Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo
Akhankara phase 1 was concluded in style, by illuminating the path of 31 beautiful souls of the school, Ilukovita Kanishta Vidyalaya, providing them with the much-needed knowledge to overcome the hurdle of the O/L examinations.
They were able to not only teach them but also establish a mindset in which they could completely rely on their abilities to succeed through the many instructional sessions that included practical experiments and group exercises. With the unwavering support of their own colleagues, they were able to expand the classes to include History and ICT, in addition to the Science, Math, and English that have been there since the inception of “Akhankara” 7 years ago.
