Gold – Maestro (Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa)

Maestro was launched in 2018 with the goal of encouraging the country’s youth to face certain difficult scenarios in a real-world business setting, paving the way for them to discover the entrepreneur buried within them. It has succeeded in instilling enthusiasm and empowerment in future leaders over the years by building a fundamental framework for conquering the workplace through business strategies and tactics.

This is the Rotaract Club of the University of Moratuwa’s most important business challenge competition, which was held for the third year in a row in 2020. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many entrepreneurial minds to compete in finding innovative solutions to a given corporate situation, while also providing an exclusive opportunity for the youth to examine their flair for analyzing, pitching, and creativity in order to kindle the hidden entrepreneur within them.

All three Maestro 2020 categories (Champions, Most Popular Team, and Best Pitcher) were won by Team ‘Bold Bearers’ representing the University of Colombo, Faculty of Management and Finance (RACUOCFMFers sink in here to find out what our president had to say about leading his team to glory). Despite the fact that the trophy was designated for a single team, the worthy experience their lives captured throughout the competition will become a memorable and vital memory for them for the rest of their lives.

Silver – AGRI-THON (Rotaract Club of  University of Kelaniya)

With the help of Edscale Up, the Rotaract Club of the University of Kelaniya has developed a technical innovation platform called “AGRI-THON,” a hackathon for agriculture and technology. Here young enthusiasts, as well as experts, were given the chance to participate and exhibit their practical and inventive solutions to current AgriTech concerns.

This was categorized into two parts, one for young enthusiasts and one for undergraduates and professionals. Both are leading to the development of creative solutions to address practical AgriTech concerns. The competition was divided into several stages until the finale, where participants received hands-on experience and materials to help them further their careers. On the 30th of May 2021, a virtual awarding ceremony for the winners was held via the Zoom platform.

In addition to the competition, AGRI-THON organized webinars and seminars to raise awareness on entrepreneurship, business models, design thinking, pitching, and digital marketing to ensure that participants got the most out of their time. It also established a network of students, undergraduates, young technologists, and industry professionals.

Bronze – DATA STORM 2.0 (Rotaract club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo)

The Advanced Data Analytics Case Study Competition, ‘Data Storm 2.0,’ has been organized for the second time by Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo in collaboration with Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa and with the partnership of OCTAVE, the John Keels Group Centre of Excellence for Big Data Analytics.

It indeed was a good start for the competition since 70 enthusiastic teams were registered from 14 state and private universities across the nation, to compete against one another and win the trophy.

This project consisted of 3 introductory webinar series to ensure that the contestants are eligible enough to compete and a competition that comprised of two rounds: “The Storming Round” and “The Grand Finale’’ that brought together experts in Data Analytics. Finalists battled in two challenging rounds where they pitched their business solution and faced a Q&A session with the panel of judges which was definitely the most nerve-racking.

After a month and a half of dedication, Team Botz-TND won the championship since their team spirit, enthusiasm and love for Data Analytics were in their minds throughout the competition.
