The Annual Induction of the Rotaract club of University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance was held on Wednesday, the 06th of August 2020, via zoom. The session began at around 10 am with the virtual participation of more than 140 freshers who were extremely enthusiastic and excited to be a part of RACUOCFMF.
The President for the year 2020/21 Rtr. Aamina Ismail commenced the session by giving a warm welcome to all the newbies along with a little interactive session, as she asked them, “What do you know about Rotaract?”
What she actually said:- “ළමය් ඔයාලා මොනවද Rotaract ගැන දන්නේ ?
This allowed to break the common misconceptions everyone had, she gave away a brief introduction on what Rotaract is about, about RACUOCFMF, the Rotaract District 3220, the aim and the purpose of the club and what it takes to be a successful Rotaractor.
Next, was the introduction to the various avenues of the club and the acknowledgement was done by the respective Directors of each avenue, where they highlighted the key projects for the year along with a mini video presentation on the projects that were completed in the previous years. The collection of unforgettable memories that were screened got everyone super excited to start off an incredible journey with RACUOCFMF.
Next in the agenda was the most awaited moment of the induction where each of us got the opportunity to introduce ourselves and get to know each other. Two weeks prior to the induction, we were divided into subgroups which comprised of twenty participants in each group and were given a set of exciting tasks to complete.
The first task was to come up with a group name and a group leader and we had such cool names such as “Fineapples”, “Swish Kebabs”, “Junior Mints” and “Chunky Monkeys”. The second task was to take a selfie holding a piece of paper describing ourselves in one word and the final task was to create a short video clip including all the selfies. Things went really well, and the excitement lasted throughout the preparation period as the teams came up with very creative and innovative concepts for the introductory videos.
Following an insightful briefing on what Rotaract actually is, the best part of the day everyone was eagerly waiting for, finally arrived. The creative video clips which were designed by the groups were played as a way of introducing ourselves and loads of smiles were shared.
Towards the end of the event we were directed to breakout rooms to participate in an online game where we were asked to answer ten questions within an allocated time. The questions included a bit of Pictionary, few general knowledge questions and a tad of IQ as well. When the time was up, we were back again directed to the main meeting room where each team was asked a question from those ten questions and a member of each group had to answer.
President Rtr. Aamina Ismail and her team proved that “ONLINE” didn’t mean boring by organizing an incredible session keeping it very much interesting and lively from the very beginning till the last minute.
Finally, it was time to find out the winning teams of the induction which included several interesting tasks, activities and games. Having the participants filled with intense curiosity, President Rtr. Aamina Ismail at last announced the winners of the day. The 1st place was secured by the team ‘Fineapples’ while there were two 2nd places taken by the teams ‘Swish Kebabs’ and ‘Chunky Monkeys’.
As the saying goes, ‘Every good thing must come to an end’, the wonderful event and an extremely memorable day which marked the beginning of an incredible journey came to a closure with the feedback delivered by a newly inducted member, Rtr. Gayan Jayasinghe.
P.S: Sadly, Unlike other RACUOCFMF events, this one did not conclude with continued fellowship and refreshments. *Sigh*, but ahhhhh those wonderful memories; those will be cherished for life! :’)
