Mission Compassion Phase 1 – Miracles in December

“Christmas is most truly Christmas when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it the most…”

All of our plans were eradicated with a twinkling of an eye by the Covid-19 pandemic that confined us to stay indoors. One by one the pages of the calendar slipped away unnoticed and the calendar page of November was about to be ripped off. The biggest barricade we had to overcome was figuring out a way to do community service in a social environment where social distance is being practiced. But giving up was not our cup of tea. As a result of this enthusiasm, project “Miracles in December”  the 1st phase of Mission Compassion was set in motion. We at RACUOCFMF decided to unleash the Magic of Christmas for the kids at Asha Special Education Support Center, Mattegoda by presenting the gifts of their preference on 23rd of December 2020.

As soon as the project idea was confirmed, the project was introduced and was publicized through social media. Although it was a tough time for all, we were able to raise all the necessary funds in less than 24 hours, manifesting us the undying humanity in our people and dear fellow members. Accordingly, the purchases were made with the help of the project Chairperson – Rtr. Dulmini Fernando and Co-Director – Community Services, Rtr. Saseni Wijegunawardane. It was indeed difficult to find matching gifts to fulfill the little ones desires, however it was our mission to make their wishes come true and gift them the best. Afterwards, the gift-wrapping session commenced. It was one filled with good cheer and camaraderie where our very own Club President – Rtr. Aamina Ismail too joined to lend a hand. The day turned into night and our anticipation for the big day started to come through.

Finally, the beautiful day dawned. It was quite a surprise to see how the innocent angels were eagerly waiting for our arrival. The staff, kids and the parents warmly welcomed us to the center and it was absolutely a precious view to see the beautiful children gorgeously dressed with colorful gowns; their eyes were filled with nothing but enthusiasm and hope. Then the little Christmas party started off with the welcome speech delivered by the advisor of the center and was followed by a brief preface about ” Miracles in December” done by one of our committee members.

Next, it was the time for an interesting dance event by the children of the center. It was a heart-touching moment for all of us. Afterwards, we granted their innocent wishes by handing over the beautifully and neatly wrapped gifts to them along with cupcakes which were nicely piped by Rtr. Nuzhath Rizvi and donated with love by Vice President Rtr. Aloka Weerawardane.

It was a heartfelt scene to see how the kids were carefully unwrapping the gifts to see what was inside. Though the face masks obstructed their innocent smiles, their eyes which lit up in humble joy said more than enough.

A huge thank you goes out to all the generous donors and all those who made Miracles in December possible. Your thoughtfulness and the little angels’ genuine laughter certainly made us witness how Miraculous December really is!
