General
The Yellow Indian Ringed Neck Parakeet/ Psittacula krameri borealis is a bird that generates immense company. The Yellow Indian Ringed Neck Parakeet has a life expectancy of about 25-35 years.
Distribution and habitat
Originating in Sri Lanka, this 14–17-inch bird is very popular as a pet mainly due to its colorful complexion and talkative nature. Even though they are popular as pets, they still live in the wild, mainly in the skies of Pakistan and India.
Appearance
Closely resembling the African Ringneck Parakeet and the Alexandrine Parakeet, this bird shows some vibrant features differentiating from the rest. The males have a black collar around their necks, a unique feature that makes them stand out from the females. Yellow Indian Ringed Neck Parakeets have a large head and a bill and have the ever-so-glowing yellow as part of their plumage making them stand out from the other Indian Ringnecks.
Habits and behavior
This bird has a skyscraping personality and loves to play as well as to vocalize with others. Since they are known to be moody, they require a great deal of training and attention to keep them as tame pets. They are excellent speakers, they can learn to vocalize from eight months and beyond and can learn up to 200 words in the process, just like any other parakeet they could revert to screeching but this bird’s playful nature aids it in continuously vocalizing and thus learning the language without reverting to its old habits.
Diet
They are required to consume a satisfactory and healthy diet. A healthy Parakeet’s diet should contain a balanced number of fruits, veggies, and pellets that are enriched in vitamins and nutrients.
