Center Stage 2024 – Rtr. Shaheem Imthiyas

In the 8th episode of Center Stage 2024 Edition, we’re thrilled to have an outstanding Rotaract figure with us, none other than the Joint Director for Club Service in the Rotaract District Steering Committee Rtr. Shaheem Imthiyas. Join us as he shares insights into his journey and reveals some intriguing aspects of his life with the captivating conversation with Rtr. Shimra Shamil!

Here are a few more questions we asked him, and his thoughtful answers to them:

In what ways do you believe Rotaract can promote inclusivity and diversity within its membership and project initiatives?

I think in terms of inclusivity we are really on the top gear right now, so all our projects, all the Rotaractors as far as I know there is no racism, we don’t classify people into group categories, in that case, we’re already on the top gear. What we only have to do is keep doing what we do. The inclusivity, and diverse backgrounds that people share. And also, when it comes to projects. For example, in “Peasanam” we are training to show the diversity of four religions. just because it is specific to a certain religion doesn’t mean others don’t allow it. Everyone is involved. Everyone learns. And the curiosity to learn about different cultures. And also, the ability to deliver the message. When it comes to a certain religion or culture is kind of how we can show diversity and inclusivity.

How do you think the experience of serving as a Rotaractor can be used in one’s life outside Rotaract?

Rotaract is your playground. So, when you go out, it’s serious business. Right here, the amount of projects that you do, the work that you do, let’s say you’re working on a project as a chairperson, so you’re supposed to overlook the entire project, right? So that is kind of similar to running as a project manager. So, for example, when it comes to designing or editing, caption writing, all of this is going to eventually help you down the line when you go into a respective field. So, this is a playground where you can make the mistakes. Just because you’re volunteering, I think it’s an amazing platform for you to learn and experience certain things because definitely down the line, you’re going to make mistakes and you’ll be more adapted to, let’s say you make a mistake, you know how to bounce back, and you know how to deal with the problem. Because as Rotaractors, we deal with a lot of problems, right? nobody is paying you to do it, you’re volunteering, you’re here to learn and you’re here to serve. So, when it comes to that aspect, you’re able to make mistakes and that’s important when it comes to the real world. Because when you make a mistake in the real world, it has consequences.  But right here, right now, it’s your chance to learn and grow.

Thank you for being a part of the 8th episode of Center Stage. Stay tuned to find out who’ll take the CENTER STAGE next!
