Target

The Rotaract Club of the University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance (RACUOCFMF) showcased exemplary dedication, adaptability, and teamwork as they successfully achieved their project targets through meticulous planning and hard work with the project “Target”. Originally, the club members had planned to visit schools and conduct seminars on accounting, economics, and business studies. However, faced with unexpected circumstances, they swiftly adjusted their plans and transformed their seminars into an engaging online seminar series.

Undeterred by the challenges, the club members collaborated with a panel of experienced lecturers to deliver the online seminar series, covering a wide range of topics from the Accounting, Economics, and Business Studies syllabus. The seminars were conducted in both English and Sinhala mediums, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility to a broader audience. Leveraging the Zoom platform, the sessions took place from the 23rd of May to the 28th of May, attracting significant participation of more than 130 enthusiastic individuals.

To extend the reach and impact of their project, the club members recorded each seminar session and made them available on the RACUOCFMF YouTube page. This thoughtful approach allowed those who were unable to attend the live sessions to access the valuable content at their convenience. By embracing technology and adapting to the unforeseen circumstances, the club members not only delivered a successful online seminar series but also showcased their ability to overcome challenges with resilience and innovation.

Additionally, the launch of the Target Model Paper Book added another dimension to the project’s success. Recognizing the importance of comprehensive study materials, the club members collaborated with experienced teachers from leading schools in the country to create these educational books. The books included two model papers for each subject, accompanied by answer scripts. Catering to the diverse linguistic needs of students, the books were printed in both English and Sinhala mediums, enabling a wider audience to benefit from the resource.

In order to ensure easy accessibility, the Target Model Paper Books were made available for purchase at a reasonable price of Rs. 700. Recognizing the challenges faced by potential buyers, the club members organized efficient courier services to deliver the books directly to the customers. This initiative not only provided A/L students with valuable study material but also supported the local community by fostering collaboration with teachers and promoting education in Sri Lanka.

The success of the project has had a profound impact on the local community. By exemplifying adaptability and dedication, the club members have set a commendable example for achieving great things despite unexpected circumstances. Through their online seminar series and the distribution of educational books, they have empowered A/L students in Sri Lanka with the necessary resources and guidance to progress and achieve their academic goals. This joint initiative, supported by the University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance and Interact clubs, has proven to be a transformative experience for those in need, demonstrating the power of collective efforts in making a positive change in society.
