The Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya unfolded a momentous occasion where they marked the end of a glorious era and opened the doors for another at their 14th Installation Ceremony, held on the 23rd of September 2023, at the Management Faculty Auditorium of University of Kelaniya from 10.30am onwards.
President 2023-24 of Rotary Club of Colombo Uptown, Rtn. Delan Silva graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor, while Dr. Ruwani Fernando, Head of the Department of Finance at the University of Kelaniya adorned the event as the Chief Guest along with the presence of District Rotaract Representative Rtr. PP Sathma Jayasinghe as a special guest. The house was called to order by the Sergeant-at-Arms Rtr. Yasith Dayarathne, followed by the national anthem where the audience stood in a collective display of respect and devotion to our homeland. Rtr. Sanduni Wickramarachchi, Rtr. Roshel Silva, Rtr. Shaakya Bandara, Rtr. Piyumi Tharangika, Rtr. Okitha Marasinghe and Rtr. Hana Abdeen joined in this memorious celebration representing the Rotaract Club of University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance.
To start off with the proceedings, the outgoing secretary for the year 2022-33, Rtr. Verosha Abeygoonewardena read out the annual report for the year which contained detailed information about all the amazing projects that the club has collectively executed throughout the whole year and took the audience on a journey through the club’s achievements, challenges and the positive impact they have left on the society. Within a total of 200 000 volunteer hours, the club has been able to successfully pull off projects covering various aspects of the sustainable development goals by achieving 16 out of the 17 of them. The initiatives taken for the year included 9 Club Service initiatives, 17 from Community Service, 7 International Service, 7 profesional Development, 4 from the Sports avenue etc. Some of the noteworthy projects mentioned were namely Soyuru piyapath, Sobaraksha, Pansala, Pioneers and many more.
Thereafter, the Outgoing President for the year 2022-23 Rtr. Manula Pethiyagoda took up the stage delivering a heartfelt speech echoed with gratitude and pride as he expressed his sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to making his Rotaract year a huge success. With the dedication added up with the devotion and commitment of everyone, Rtr. Manula was able to proudly showcase his year’s achievements along with a rollercoaster ride of events where him and his team had to manage accordingly to face the challenges and finally bid farewell which marked the end of a remarkable tenure.
The Vice President for the Rotaract years 2023-24 Rtr. Dhanika Kumarasiri , a fellow classmate of the incoming president, introduced him with a few words and a video clip, compiling the best memories they’ve had throughout the years. Afterwards it was time for the most anticipated moment of the entire ceremony, the collaring of the new president of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya for the year 2023-24, Rtr. Roshan Rathnayake.
Next it was time to introduce the Executive committee and the talented individuals bearing the director posts of The Rotaract club of University of Kelaniya for the year 2023-24.

After the official installing of the Executive committee and the Board of Directors, the stage was graced by the presence of District Rotaract Representative Rtr. PP Sathma Jayasinghe, who enlightened the audience with her graceful words and wisdom where she encouraged the present members to continue and carry on with the hard work passed on to them from their outgoing members. The Guest of Honor Rtn. Delan Silva, President of the Rotary Club of Colombo Uptown, took the stage next where he emphasized the importance of Rotary’s commitment to service and making a difference, followed by Dr. Ruwani Fernando, the Chief Guest and Head of the Department of Finance at the University of Kelaniya who took upon the stage and wished the newly appointed board along with words of wisdom delivered to the audience.
Finally, Rtr. Akshana Wickramarasinghe, Secretary for the year 2023-24, took the stage to deliver the vote of thanks to everyone who were present at the location to witness the memorious event which was complemented with a handing over of tokens of appreciations to the special invitees. With the final vote of thanks, the 14th Installation Ceremony of The Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya concluded, marking both the end and a fresh beginning of a new era.
