The Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town ceremoniously marked the commencement of its 46th year of service with its 46th Installation Ceremony, held on 31st August. The event signified a seamless transition of leadership while reaffirming the club’s long-standing commitment to service, leadership development, and fellowship within the Rotaract movement.
The proceedings commenced at 3.30 p.m. with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolizing wisdom, unity, and new beginnings, at the prestigious New Arts Theatre of the University of Colombo.The ceremony was attended by an esteemed gathering of Rotaractors and well-wishers, with club members Piyumi Tharangika, Pasan Jithnuka, Charith Karunarathne, Omasha Vidumini, Mindana Perera, Nimmi Maheeshi, Chamidu Himal, Achini Nawagomuwage, Mesandi Nikagoda, Dimali Alahakoon, Tharusha Pasan, Tharuki Tinara, Ravindu Janith, Sadini Dileka, Lathuni Perera, Kesha Rathnayaka, Himashi Nimsarani, Kirulee Kularathne, Sanjana Madusanka, Rasika Pandula, Rashini Nimsara, Nirasha Nethmini, Tanuri Kalansooriya, Nethmi Nimsara, Hirusha Nimsara, and Sesadi Dewanga participating in this meaningful tradition.
The flag salutation was announced by Rtr. Yashodara Dunuwille Koralage, following which the formal proceedings of the evening commenced.
Address by the Outgoing President
The Outgoing President, Rtr. Haneef Mohomed, delivered a comprehensive address reflecting on his term in office. He extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honor, and all attendees, and reflected on the club’s achievements and milestones during the year.
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility, he expressed his sincere appreciation to the Board of Directors and members for their dedication and commitment. He stated that “true leadership is measured not only by what we achieve, but by the impact we leave behind,” highlighting the value of sustainable service and meaningful engagement. He concluded by formally handing over leadership to the incoming team, expressing confidence in their ability to uphold the club’s vision and further strengthen its service journey.

Address by the Incoming President
The Incoming President, Rtr. Shazeena Naushad, delivered an inspiring and purpose-driven address, reflecting on her journey within the club and the values instilled through Rotaract. She emphasized that the essence of Rotaract extends beyond project implementation, encompassing relationship-building, personal growth, and long-term community impact.
She expressed her gratitude to her mentors, peers, family, and past leaders for their continued guidance and support, while paying special tribute to the Immediate Past President for his approachable and empathetic leadership. Looking ahead, she announced two flagship initiatives for the year, namely the launch of an International Poetry Competition and targeted school support projects, both designed to deliver sustainable and measurable outcomes.
Acknowledging the responsibilities and challenges of leadership, and drawing from her experience as a former secretary, she reaffirmed her commitment to lead with dedication and inclusivity. She then formally introduced the Board of Directors for the year 2025–26, marking the official commencement of the new Rotaract year.
Address by the District Rotaract Representative
The address by the District Rotaract Representative (DRR) highlighted the 46-year legacy of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town and its significant contribution to leadership development within the district and the wider Rotaract movement.
Using a creative musical playlist analogy, the DRR described the club’s diverse membership and the harmony achieved through collective effort. Emphasizing that the true strength of a club lies in the character and commitment of its members rather than in titles, the DRR acknowledged the dedication of the outgoing board and offered guidance to the incoming president, stressing the importance of inclusive leadership and ensuring that all voices are heard. The address concluded with best wishes for continued success and sustained excellence in the year ahead.
Installation of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors (2024/25)
The ceremony also included the formal installation of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, comprising dedicated Rotaractors entrusted with guiding the club throughout the year. The leadership structure reflects a collaborative and service-oriented approach, positioning the club for impactful initiatives across Community Service, Club Service, Professional Development, and International Service avenues.

Address by the Chief Guest
The Chief Guest, Rtn. Jananga Priyadasa, addressed the gathering by highlighting the longstanding relationship between his Rotary Club and the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town. He commended the club’s strong legacy, the achievements of the outgoing leadership, and extended his best wishes to the incoming president and board. He further encouraged members to remain actively engaged in club activities, emphasizing personal growth, fellowship, and meaningful community service.
The evening also featured moments of fellowship and light-hearted engagement, including a personal address by a close friend of the incoming president and creative video presentations that reflected the personalities and journeys of both presidents, adding warmth and camaraderie to the formal proceedings.
The 46th Installation Ceremony concluded with renewed enthusiasm and a shared commitment to uphold the ideals of Rotaract. With a capable leadership team and a clear vision for the year ahead, the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town enters its 46th year poised to continue its tradition of excellence, service, and leadership within the district and beyond.
