The 30th Annual Rotaract District Assembly was held on the 4th of July 2020 at Golden Rose. This year’s assembly was rather distinct to the previous ones due to the unprecedented events faced. Nevertheless, the District Steering Committee embraced change and organized this remarkable event in accordance with the health guidelines and it turned out to be quite significant since majority of the Rotaractors witnessed the event via the virtual platform.
පවත්නා තත්වය හේතුවෙන් සෞඛ්යාරක්ෂිත උපදෙස් පිළිපදිමින් තරමක් වෙනස් අන්දමින් වුවද ජුලි මස 4 වැනි දින තිස්වැනි රොටරැක්ට් දිස්ත්රික් සම්මේලනය උත්කර්ෂවත්ව පවත්වනු ලැබීය. දිස්ත්රික් මෙහෙයුම් කමිටුව විසින් බහුතර සාමාජික පිරිසකට අන්තර්ජාලය ඔස්සේ සම්බන්ධ වීමට අවස්ථාව සලසා දී තිබීම වැදගත් කරුණක් විය.
The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp followed by the ushering of the dignitaries to the head table. After the formalities were concluded the outgoing District Secretary Rtr. Harindee Fernando addressed the gathering and spoke about the milestones crossed as a District during the past year. Moments before she signed off, she shared on the screen, a video that filled our hearts with delight and a great sense of accomplishment. Following that, the DRR for the years 2019/20 Rtr. PP Krishan Balaji delivered an insightful speech and was given a token of appreciation for his immense dedication and devotion. Afterwards, the outgoing District Steering Committee was awarded for the wonderful year that they have put through.
வெளியேறும் மாவட்ட செயலாளர் Rtr. ஹரிந்நி பர்னாந்து விடைபெறுவதற்கு முன் எங்கள் இதயங்களை மகிழ்ச்சி படுத்த, சாதனைகள் நிரம்பிய ஒரு காணொளியை திரையில் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார். அதன் பின்னர் 2019/20 ஆம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கான DRR. கிருஷான் பாலாஜி, ஓர் ஆழ்ந்த உரையை நிகழ்த்தினார். அவரது அர்ப்பணிப்பினை ஊக்குவிக்கும் முகமாக நியாபகார்த்த பரிசு வழங்கப்பட்டது. வெளியேறும் மாவட்ட வழிநடத்தல் குழுவின் அற்புத பங்களிப்புக்காக விருது வழங்கப்பட்டது.
A protagonist in the Rotaract family, Rtn. Jegatheesan Pirrasanth shared his memories throughout the past year as the DRCC and this was followed by the speech given by the District Governor 2019/2020, Rtn. Sebastian Karunakaran who touched upon the future expectations for Rotaract Services, plans for Rotary Central and further requested the Rotaractors to continue their journey even as Rotarians. The excitement filled entertainment session began subsequently and remained at a fever pitch until the spectacular performance by ‘Blaze’ ended with a well-known Sinhala Baila Song ‘Sumihiri Pane’ which definitely got everyone up on their feet.
Afterwards another set of awards were given out and with that the morning session came to a closure.
The second segment of the day started off with the usual formalities and momentarily the highlight of the event, the collaring of the District Rotaract Representative for 2020/21 Rtn. Rtr. PP. Kavindra Kasun Sigera was done by PDRR Rtr. Krishan Balaji.
උත්සවයේ වැදගත්ම අංගය ලෙස 2020/21 වර්ෂය සදහා දිස්ත්රික් රොටරැක්ට් නියෝජිත ලෙස Rtn. Rtr. PP. කසුන් සිගේරා වෙත PDRR. Rtr. ක්රිෂාන් බලාජී විසින් තනතුරු ප්රදානය කිරීම සිදු කෙරිණි.
The newly appointed DRR Rtn. Rtr. Kasun Sigera in his speech pointed out the potential of the youth and the power of their teamwork while encouraging change along with strategically planned progression. Subsequently, The District Steering Committee of 2020/21 was acknowledged and the official business card of Rotaract District 3220 was handed over to Rtn. Rtr. PP. DRR. Kasun Sigera. Next he was assisted by the ADRR Rtr. Miyuru Dharmage in launching the “One Rotaract” Application and the Official Website of District 3220 www.rotaract3220.org , showing the path for change, novelty and new creation.
Next, Rtn. Ajith Weerasinghe addressed the gathering and briefed all those present about the slogan for this year ‘Each one Bring one’ which was set up for the rising concerns on declining members in Rotary and the importance of promoting the movement. Following that, Rtn. Rtr. Amjad Yoosuf addressed the audience and advised the attendees to focus more on the concerns of the society and highlighted the importance of Rotaract and Rotary working hand in hand in achieving missions.
Next in line was Mr. Bathiya Jayakody, the Guest Speaker of the event. He conducted an interactive discussion on the topics of entrepreneurship and change and concluded his session leaving the audience astonished by his exhilarating performance. Then we had a very special individual Rtn. PHF. Dr. Rohantha Athukorala who highlighted the importance of Rotaract and Rotary continuing to serve despite the negativity filled in the environment. Furthermore he added on how an individual should remain fearless and strive for success at all times, with some great examples we could all relate to.
The final set of awards were then distributed and the event came into a closure with the speech of gratitude been delivered. The event certainly did leave a mark to all those Rotaractors present and to the many who joined virtually and we from RACUOCFMF are up to serve the community better and impact lives in the year to come.
