The Rotaract Club of the University of Colombo Faculty of Arts marked the beginning of another promising chapter of service, leadership and fellowship with its 17th Installation Ceremony. Bringing together Rotaractors, Rotarians, faculty members, alumni and distinguished guests, the ceremony celebrated the achievements of the RI Year 2025/26 while officially welcoming the incoming Board of Directors for RI Year 2026/27. The proceedings commenced at 7.07 p.m. with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolizing the start of a new year of service and commitment.
The Secretary’s Report for RI Year 2025/26 highlighted another successful year for the club, marking the completion of its 16th year since its establishment on 26th March 2010 under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Colombo Uptown. The report reflected on the successful execution of 27 initiatives across Community Service, Club Service and Fellowship, International Service, Professional Development, Editorial, Membership Development, Public Relations and Sports & Recreation.
The Community Service Avenue continued to create meaningful social impact through initiatives such as Little Minds, an English-language development programme conducted for children at an SOS Children’s Village, Project P2, which provided educational support to students affected by floods, Paws & Care for the welfare of street animals, inspire for children affected by cancer, Being Human and relief efforts for communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah. These initiatives reflected the club’s commitment to serving vulnerable communities and creating sustainable impact.
Club Service and Fellowship projects fostered friendship, teamwork and member engagement through initiatives such as Club Orientation 2025, Movie Night, Bongo Fest, By the Night and Trivia Night. International Service strengthened global connections through twinning partnerships with Rotaract clubs in India, international member exchanges, Cultural Fusion 2.0, a book donation project and a food distribution initiative in Bangalore that distributed nearly 190 kilograms of cooked rice and served approximately 1,200 individuals.
The Professional Development Avenue empowered participants through projects such as Vision to Venture, which brought together aspiring entrepreneurs, Cruising Uni with AI, which explored the responsible use of artificial intelligence in university settings, Rotary Foundation One on One and Script ’26 – The Journey, which supported G.C.E. Advanced Level English Literature students. Editorial, Membership Development, Public Relations and Recreation avenues further strengthened the club through creative communication, fellowship-building initiatives, promotional campaigns and recreational activities including Kurobo and SLAM 2026.
Reflecting on the year, the Secretary emphasized that every project required dedication, teamwork, communication and resilience. Although the journey was demanding, it provided members with invaluable experiences, stronger friendships, leadership skills and memories that would last a lifetime.
