39th Installation Ceremony of Rotaract Club of Wellawatte

The Rotaract Club of Wellawatte marked a significant milestone with the successful hosting of its 39th Installation Ceremony, held on a memorable afternoon that embodied the spirit of service, gratitude, and renewal. The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp at 3:15 p.m., symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter. The event brought together past and present members, Rotaract leaders, and distinguished guests, creating a space for reflection on achievements and anticipation for the year ahead.

Outgoing President Rtr. Kugaleshani Ravirajah officially called the house to order, paving the way for the presentation of the Secretary’s report. The report reflected on a highly productive Rotaract year, during which the club executed a total of 24 projects across all avenues. These included five projects under Club Service, impactful community service efforts such as a blood donation campaign and the donation of stationery to underprivileged students in Monaragala, six projects under International Service, four initiatives under Professional Development, and two under Sports and Recreation. Under Rtr. Kugaleshani’s leadership, the club was recognized with the silver award for the Most Innovative Community Service Project for their initiative “Class into Fantastic” and was also awarded a Rotaract District Citation. Furthermore, the club emerged champions of the TRR Raj Trophy, while the President herself was named President of the Month in May.

In her address, the outgoing president expressed sincere gratitude to all past presidents, mentors, and her dedicated Board of Directors, offering special appreciation to Vice Presidents Vinuj and Harendra and Secretary Dilash for their commitment and teamwork. She reflected on the personal and collective growth that Rotaract fosters and encouraged the incoming board to embrace the evolving nature of leadership. Sharing advice received from a past District Rotaract Chair, she emphasized that every leader’s path is unique and must reflect their own values and context. She concluded with heartfelt wishes for the incoming President and Board of Directors, summarizing her journey as one of “transformational growth” under the guiding theme “Rise Together.”

Incoming President Rtr. Dilash Sivakumaran was introduced with a light hearted video highlighting memorable moments from his journey, setting a warm and celebratory tone. In his inaugural address, he extended appreciation to his mentors Mr. Netheesh and Mr. Sachinth, and thanked the outgoing president for her leadership and support. Presenting the theme for the new Rotaract year, “Together We Rise,” Rtr. Dilash emphasized the importance of unity, friendship, and leadership development, acknowledging that while mistakes may happen, collective perseverance will ensure success. A key highlight of his speech was the official launch of the club’s new website, representing a strategic enhancement of the club’s digital presence. He concluded by expressing his gratitude to the guests, sponsors, and fellow Rotaractors, affirming that as long as the club stands together, there is nothing it cannot achieve.

The event also introduced the newly appointed Board of Directors for the year 2024/25, with Rtr. Dilash Sivakumaran as President, Rtr. Dulaangan Chandrasekaran as Vice President, Rtr. Harisuthan Mohanadas as Secretary, and a dedicated team overseeing various service avenues. Their appointment was met with enthusiasm and encouragement from all present.

District Rotaract Representative Rtr. Haneeka Rahil addressed the gathering with words of motivation, commending the club for its legacy and contributions. She highlighted the success of the Iftar project, which engaged over 300 Rotaractors, and reminded members of the importance of balancing service with strong administrative foundations. She reinforced the professional and personal growth opportunities offered by Rotaract and congratulated the incoming board.

Rtr. Nazmi Mahamood, also a DRR and Past President of the club, shared a heartfelt message about his long-standing connection with the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte. Describing it as his “second home,” he praised the club for its enduring identity and ability to embrace both challenges and opportunities. He encouraged the new leadership to maintain the club’s values and to serve with passion and unity, echoing the message that “as we rise together, we must also serve together.”

The Chief Guest, Rtr. Nimantha Ekanayake, delivered an inspiring address, congratulating the new president and acknowledging the pride his parents must feel. Reflecting on his own experience as a former Retractor, he shared how the movement helped him grow from a shy student into a confident leader. He emphasized the importance of defining a clear mission and vision and advised the new board to approach their roles as they would manage a company, with dedication and strategic thinking.

Adding a personal and joyful element to the ceremony, club members presented a humorous video and a close friend of the incoming president shared fond childhood stories, offering a lighthearted glimpse into the friendships that lie at the heart of Rotaract.

As the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte embarks on a new journey under the leadership of Rtr. Dilash Sivakumaran, the message echoed throughout the event remains clear “Together We Rise.” The ceremony served not only as a celebration of past achievements but also as a confident step into a year full of promise, purpose, and continued service to the community.
