Oscars 2023 – A Night of Historic Wins

The 95th Oscar awards ceremony held on the 12th of March 2023 watered down the entertainment for movie lovers. The film “Everything Everywhere All at once dominated the Oscars on Sunday night, winning seven awards, including best picture, best actress, best director, best editing, supporting actor, best-supporting actress, and best original screenplay.

The last year’s controversy regarding the ‘slap’ gave the ceremony kind of attention to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, where the host Jimmy Kimmel addressed in his opening speech with a joke about the “crisis team” called up by the Academy in case of anything unpredictable and violence.

The major milestone in this year’s Oscar was the Asian representation in U.S. cinema that entrapped the wins for acting, directing, and best picture from various groups. Michelle Yeoh won the best actress and became the first Asian star to take the best actress award. Kwan and Scheinert won the best original screenplay. Also, directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won the directing prizes.

The key to the success of the movie “Everything Everywhere all at once” is the originality of the casting, which proves the fundamental importance of markers the Academy members expect from Hollywood. The specific merits of the “Everything Everywhere” Academy set the stage for a range of future movies. Although Hollywood is the land of enthusiasm, the participants in this movie who won conveyed a sense of genuine mutual appreciation that shows the industry’s tune of the time.

The German film “All Quiet on the Western Front” won for cinematography and production design and received the Oscar for Best International feature, which was perhaps a shock but not a surprise. The surprise of the night was Brendan’s win for Best Actor for his performance in “The Whale.” His returns to the screen after years of diminished onscreen presence surprise the night.

The Best original song was won by “Naatu Naatu” from S.S.Rajamouli’s historical action fantasy “RRR,” which caught the Academy’s attention with the choreography. The year’s biggest hits in the Best Picture category were “Avatar The Way of Water” and “Top Gun Maverick.” “Avatar” won Best Visual Effects, and “Top Gun Maverick” won Best Sound.

Ultimately these wons and the nominations at the Oscars represented a mix of cultures everywhere around the world by making the foundation for future movies to emerge.
