String hoppers

String hoppers, or “idiyappam,” are a traditional Sri Lankan dish made from rice flour, which is pressed into thin, noodle-like strands and steamed. The history of string hoppers goes back centuries, with roots in South Asian cuisine. The taste is delicate and mildly sweet, with a soft, slightly chewy texture. When served with coconut milk, curries, or sambol, they soak up the flavors beautifully. The mild taste of string hoppers makes them perfect for pairing with rich, spicy dishes, making them a beloved breakfast or dinner option in Sri Lanka and other parts of South Asia.
