In the first episode of Center Stage 2020, we interviewed the Funny ( that’s what he said!) and charismatic DRR. Rtr. PP Krishan Balaji. From stories of him peeing in his pants to the lame jokes he’d crack to get his crush’s attention, we’ve got you all covered.

Here are a few more questions we asked him, and his thoughtful answers to those: 

If you could change 3 things about Sri Lanka, what would you change?

• Education system : I think that is something that has to be changed. In the way how things have been taught from the very beginning to bottom up. The entire system is kind of flawed as well. We are taught how to memorize a lot of things and put it back on to a piece of paper.
• Mind set of people : To take ownership of the actions they are doing. It can be a smallest possible action like throwing a plastic bottle outside.
• Political make up that is there in Sri Lanka : I think that could change drastically, I know we are just elected a new president, but the entire system once again needs to undergo a huge change. If we look forward extremely for a sustainable impact for Sri Lanka that is something that has to be changed as well.

What motivates you to stay and take up more responsibility in Rotaract?

Something that has motivated me a lot is the potential that we have as young people, how much of change that we can make in people’s lives and also how much it changes us as individuals. Rotaract has changed me as an individual and developed me into a different person that I’m here today. So those are like the two main factors that motivated me to stay in Rotaract.

What are the skills you gained through Rotaract?

Definitely I think being able to work as a team player, the ability to understand different people. You might have a group of individuals where all of them can be different, to understand how each of them operate is very important. And through that it has taught me how to become a better leader as well. It has taught me to be more compassionate towards different people and be more understanding, be more open to different ideas as well  and to see larger part of the world rather than being stuck in a small bubble that we are in. So those are things that Rotaract has given me.
