In The Limelight – Second Quarter Roundup

October through December, the 2nd quarter marked
the end of another successful quarter for RACUOCFMF. We kept the momentum going
since the first quarter and completed multiple projects across five avenues.

In the Limelight; the quarterly roundup was put
together to give an insight into the projects and achievements of the club
during the 2nd quarter.

International Service
Share. Care. Smile.
Initiated
by the Rotaract Club of Hyderabad Himayathnagar, ‘Share. Care. Smile.” was the
kick-start project of the second quarter. It was in fact a joint project
undertaken with a theme to share what we’ve got, care for the underprivileged
and put a smile on their faces, which we saw in great abundance on the 1st of
October. Gungamuwa Maha Vidyalaya in Horana, with 213 students, was the school
chosen. We were not only able to delight the students with presents, but also
motivate and highlight the importance of higher education.

Birthday
October 12th marked a very special day to our
club. With a delicious cake, everyone gathered to celebrate the 8th year of
being part of this amazing movement, which happens to be the reason behind many
successful milestones in our lives. The celebrations were lit by the
participation of past presidents and club members who have always treated
Rotaract as one big family.
Professional Development
Info Center
One
of the most informative projects under the Professional Development avenue was
held on the 22nd of October 2018 at the premises of our Faculty of Management
and Finance. Senior students with higher credentials were invited to conduct
two sessions of educating the sophomores of the faculty in choosing the ideal
area to specialize in their final years. The project earned the eager
participation of over 250 sophomores.

Stepping Stones
Stepping
Stones was a leadership program held on the 31st of October at Royal Skills
Center. As the name suggests, the objective of the project was to gear up the
progress of every individual by unleashing the leader within themselves. With
the participation of both Rotaractors and non-Rotaractors, it was successfully
carried out by the professional trainer Miss Bernadine Jayasinghe.

Finance
Bake Sales
Five teams from the club competed against each
other in generating revenue from bake sales during the month of October. They
went beyond the concept of bake sales by selling some of the most sought-after
items such as traditional Sri Lankan cuisines and mojitos. There was also an exciting
‘Henna Stall’ which even the boys wanted to try!

Orientation
The orientation for the newbie members was held on
the 4th of November 2018. The eager and enthusiastic faces of the Rotaractors
we welcomed aboard served as a source of inspiration to everyone present. The
interesting briefings about the Rotaract movement by DRR Elect Rtr. Krishan
Bala, Asst. Rotaract District Secretary & Coordinator Rtr. Harindee
Fernando and District Club Service Co-Director Rtr. Elon Newton were followed
by team-building games and energized fun learning.

Feel the Sun
“Feel the Sun” was a project carried out at the
Dayamina Children’s Home, which is a home to about 30-35 children with special
needs. Both members and non-members of the club volunteered to spend the day at
the home and engaged in many fun-filled activities such as face-painting,
singing and dancing. The children were also given delightful presents along
with an evening snack. Among the many memories we took home on the 15th
of November was the happiness of seeing the kids smile.

Board Trip
Undoubtedly, the Board Trip was one of the highly
anticipated projects of the quarter. The members headed off to Hikka Boutique,
a villa in Hikkaduwa, on the 21st of December. The time spent together relaxing
and playing games such as mafia and handball was much needed after the
pressurizing semester end exams.
The Blog

With over 20,000 views in the quarter, we are
excited to have crossed yet another milestone of 280,000 views! We would like to extend our gratitude to our readers
for their support and enthusiasm throughout and to our members for creating
interesting content.
Outlook for the 3rd Quarter

Moving into the 3rd quarter of the
year, we are all pumped up and geared to carry forward the momentum of the
first half of our Rotaract year 2018/19. Glass Ice and Boss; two signature
projects of our club will also be happening in this significant quarter!
