It’s Okay to Be the Black Sheep

Life once asked me

“why I don’t blend in more with the crowd?”

I told it gently,

I don’t enter places

where my soul goes quiet.

I don’t dislike crowds,

I just hear too much in them.

Energy speaks faster than words,

and silence tells the truth

before people do.

Some groups shine beautifully,

well-coordinated, well-liked,

very convincing.

I admire the effort.

Truly.

I simply choose not to perform.

I’d rather stand aside

than clap for something

that feels rehearsed.

Being the black sheep

isn’t rebellion,

it’s instinct.

A quiet preference

for peace over participation.

Life smiled and said,

“You’re different.”

I nodded.

“Yes.”

That’s how I stay honest.”
