Project Arambhayak – A Journey of Blessings and New Beginnings

“As one chapter closes, another begins.”

With the dawn of the Rotaract year 2024/25, The Rotaract Club of the University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance turned over a new leaf. As Rtr. Piyumi Tharangika and Rtr. Sanduni Wickramarachchi took on the roles of President and Secretary, following the footsteps of Rtr. Kaveesha Dodanthenna and Rtr. Shenaya Fernando, it was time to pause, reflect, and seek blessings for the journey ahead.

That’s where Project Arambhayak found its meaning, a spiritual journey across four sacred places, each visit filled with peace, purpose, and prayer.

The day began at St. Mary’s Church, where soft candlelight and silent prayers set a calm and hopeful tone. It was a moment to slow down, breathe deeply, and wish for strength and guidance in the months ahead.

Next was Old Katiresan Pillaiar Kovil, reached just in time before its closing. Heartfelt blessings were received from the Swami, and in an act of kindness, sacred cows outside the kovil were lovingly fed, reminding all of the simple power of compassion.

The third stop was the Vajiraramaya Buddhist Temple, At the temple, members of the board offered flowers at the shrine. Oil lamps were lit, and the sacred Bodhi tree was gently watered with reverence. A monk later chanted pirith, invoking peace and protection for the journey ahead. The visit concluded with the offering of atapirikara as a sign of respect and gratitude.

The final visit was to the Wellawatta Jumma Masjid. Since prior notice couldn’t be given, entry wasn’t possible. However, a quiet moment of reflection was held outside, honouring the spirit of togetherness. It was a gentle reminder that no matter the place or path, all faiths carry the same values, kindness, peace, and unity.

Concluding this spiritually enriching journey, 25 lunch packets were distributed to those in need a humble yet powerful act of service to honour the values the project stood for.

Project Arambhayak wasn’t just about visiting places, it was about opening hearts, finding meaning in silence, and stepping into a new year with hope, unity, and purpose. As the Rotaract year 2025/26 unfolds, may this journey be the light that leads the way.
