Target

Never is life easy nor empty when you have set the target that keeps you running and gives you the purpose of what you are doing. Project ‘Target’ initiated by the Community Service Avenue of RACUOCFMF is such an aim not of an individual but of a marvelous team of 60+ members who strived really hard in making the lives better of many in different aspects. Though the project had the spotlight on lending hands to the commerce stream Advance Level students to pass their final cutoff of 13 years with flying colours through the two phases conducted under the project is also focused on raising funds to contribute to constructing the water distribution system and developing Naagala Sri Piyarathana Kanishta Vidyalaya, thereby improve the quality of life of the villagers in Naagala Village in Bibile, Monaragala District, Uva Province done under project ‘Gamwardhanaya’.

RACUOCFMF இன் சமூக சேவை அவென்யூவால் தொடங்கப்பட்ட ‘TARGET’ செயற்றிட்டத்தின் முக்கிய நோக்கம், வணிகப் பிரிவு மாணவர்களுக்கு உயர்தர பரீட்சையில் வெற்றிகரமாக சித்தியடைவதற்கு உதவுவதாகும். திட்டத்தின் முதல் கட்டமாக கொழும்பு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் முகாமைத்துவ மற்றும் நிதி பீடத்தின் அனுபவம் வாய்ந்த இளங்கலை பட்டதாரிகளால் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட மாதிரி வினாத்தாள் புத்தகமான ‘TARGET’ விற்பனை செய்யப்பட்டது.  500 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட பிரதிகள் விற்கப்பட்டன. இரண்டாம் கட்டமாக, சூம் மற்றும் யூடியூப் வழியாக வணிகப் பிரிவு உயர்தர மாணவர்களுக்கு 25 கருத்தரங்குகள் நடத்தப்பட்டன. 1500+ மாணவர்கள் இந்த நிகழ்நிலை கருத்தரங்குகளில் பங்குபற்றினர். இந்த இரண்டு கட்டங்களையும் வெற்றிகரமாக முடித்ததன் மூலம்  ‘TARGET’ செயற்றிட்டம் திருப்தியுடன் முடிவடைந்தது. மேலும், ‘கம்வர்தனய’ திட்டத்தின் கீழ் நாகல ஸ்ரீ பியரதன கனிஷ்ட வித்தியாலயத்தை அபிவிருத்தி செய்து அதன் மூலம் ஊவா மாகாணத்தின் மொனராகலை மாவட்டத்தின் பிபிலையில் உள்ள நாகல கிராமத்தில் உள்ள கிராம மக்களின் வாழ்க்கைத் தரத்தை மேம்படுத்துவதற்கும்  ‘TARGET’ செயற்றிட்டம் மூலம் சேகரிக்கப்பட்ட நிதி பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

‘Target’ ව්‍යාපෘතිය ආරම්භ කරන ලද්දේ RACUOCFMF හි ප්‍රජා අංශය විසිනි. මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය වාණිජ විෂය ධාරාවේ උසස් පෙළ සිසුන්ට සහාය දීම කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කළ අතර ඊට අමතරව නාගල ශ්‍රී පියරතන කනිෂ්ඨ විද්‍යාලය සංවර්ධනය කිරීමට සහ එම ප්‍රදේශයේ ජල බෙදා හැරීමේ පද්ධතිය ඉදිකිරීමට දායක වීම සඳහා අරමුදල් රැස් කිරීම කෙරෙහි ද අවධානය යොමු විය. ‘Target’ ව්‍යාපෘතිය ඉංග්‍රීසි සහ සිංහල මාධ්‍ය දෙකෙන්ම ගිණුම්කරණය, ව්‍යාපාර අධ්‍යයනය සහ ආර්ථික විද්‍යාව ආවරණය වන පරිදි සම්මන්ත්‍රණ සැසි 25 කින් සමන්විත විය. සිසුන් 1500 ක් මෙම සැසි මාලාවට සම්බන්ධ විය.

The first phase of the project was selling a model question paper book ‘TARGET’ which was prepared by an experienced set of undergraduates of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. The book consisted of 7 question papers with its answers of Advance Level commerce stream subjects; Economics, Accounting, Business Studies, and also  General English in both English and Sinhala languages. It was definitely a not-so-easy task with sleepless nights, loads of thinking, magnifying close supervisions, inexplicable dedication, and cheers to that marvelous team for the job could have not been any better! Over 500 copies were sold out of which the gains of it were utilized in uplifting the lives of those villagers who were in desperate need.

Not as before, but for the past two years challenges of life have become tougher with the prevailing pandemic situation and the education sector was no exception. Students had to continue their studies willingly or not via this never before known virtual platform leading them to lose of concentration and panic situations when exams were around.

The second phase of Target was to address this issue focusing on commerce stream Advance level students by executing a series of seminars via the zoom platform and our YouTube channel live which eventually amounted to 18,000+ views conducted by experienced lecture panel and undergraduates of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Management and Finance. 1500+ students joined this series and indeed that itself showcased the impact we were about to make while it also stimulated the sense of doing things even better which finally become the best as it could be. Kickstarting in October 2021 with a motivation session, it continued covering the subjects Accounting, Business Studies, and Economics in both English and Sinhala medium totaling up to 25 sessions. The series was concluded with an ‘Exam Tips’ session which was indeed admired by the participants conducted by our Club President in January 2022. Icon Business School tied hands with us as the main education partner and Interact clubs, as well as Leo clubs, joined us which resulted in a higher reach of the seminar series. The positive feedback received from students were overwhelming and there is no better reward than hearing those words of satisfaction from our lovely participants. It was truly one successful attempt from the core of its meaning benefiting hundreds of students undoubtedly!

Eventually, with the successful completion of these two phases Project Target winded up its long journey of months with loads of lessons, experience, memories, and satisfaction that would be treasured for the rest of our lives along with that feeling of making the life of another better than what it was which is not compatible and has no substitutes either…
