Where Happiness Is Hidden

I’ve come to realize our hearts quietly wait for milestone memories.
We wait for the day our results are released, we dream of the first day at our dream job, the rush of our first promotion and the unforgettable moment our soulmate proposes.

We imagine walking down the aisle on our wedding day, holding our first child in our arms and one day sitting peacefully in retirement – believing that final happiness lives somewhere there.

And then…there are the cinematic moments like sitting by a fire, warm hands roasting marshmallows and laughing under a sky full of fireworks.

We chase these moments and picture them like scenes from a perfect movie – moments where, maybe, happiness will finally arrive.

But then I ask myself….
What if those moments never happen? What are the golden memories that still bring a smile to your face at the final time of your life?
Happiness doesn’t knock loudly. It may be hiding in your room. Maybe in the taste of your evening tea or coffee or in the night sky with a white moon and a thousand stars that you see through your window while lying on your bed. It might be in the moment you arrive home and you and your mom or little sibling is waiting at the gate and suddenly, you smile without even realizing.

Sometimes, it’s in the unexpected: When you pass your old school and see prefects checking bags and it brings a calm smile to your heart or when you randomly hear your comfort song in a playlist and for a moment, you’re whole again.

It’s all in the way we notice things. The moment you’re standing on your balcony and the cool wind hugs you or the smell of rain or a special someone smiling at you and just like that, your whole day is filled with joy like the very first week of falling in love.
So, you can receive happiness in the smallest ways like replaying songs that always fix your mood or setting soft, joyful alarm tones to start your day.

We don’t need to chase happiness in milestones. To be truly happy, we just need to pause and see what’s around us.
It’s hidden – not always in achievements, money or grand events – but also within the quiet moments of our heart.
When we begin to notice these things positively, we discover happiness. And this discovery can lead to a beautiful journey – one without constant stress and one that lets us leave this world one day , peacefully with a genuine smile in our very last sleep.
