14th Installation Ceremony of Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura

 

On the 2nd of November 2024, the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura hosted its 14th Installation Ceremony at the Sri Sumangala Auditorium, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The event, which commenced at 10:30 a.m., was a celebration of leadership, service, and the unwavering commitment of its members.

The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, a symbolic gesture marking the dawn of a new chapter for the club. The Sergeant-at-Arms, Rtr. Rashmi Niyangoda, then brought the house to order, followed by the National Anthem. The Rotaract formalities, including the Rotaract Song, set the tone for an inspiring and memorable day. The chairperson of the Organizing Committee extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and members, paving the way for the outgoing Secretary, Rtr. Dinithi De Silva, to deliver the Secretary’s Report. Her speech highlighted the remarkable milestones achieved during the past year, showcasing the club’s dedication and success. One of the most heartfelt moments of the ceremony was the address by the Immediate Past President, Rtr. Yazeed Yehiya. He shared his Rotaract journey, reflecting on the hard work and dedication of the members, the club’s successful projects, and its accolades. Signing off from his role, he left the audience with a powerful message: “Remember, it is the impact we make that defines us.” The event then moved on to the introduction of the incoming President. Rtr. Sandali Mendis delivered a lively and fun introduction, accompanied by a creative video showcasing the new President’s journey. This led to the collaring of the new President, Rtr. Akhila Weerasuriya, a significant moment that marked the transition of leadership. In his inaugural speech, Rtr. Akhila expressed his gratitude to Rotaract for transforming him into a better leader. He shared his vision for the year ahead, unveiling initiatives aimed at creating a meaningful impact on society. Encouraging everyone to stay hopeful, he stated: “There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.” He further advised members to focus on the light and embrace the hope that lies ahead.

PP Shanel Mendis, addressed the gathering. He emphasized the benefits of being a Rotaractor, encouraging members to engage in meaningful community service, environmental initiatives, and enjoy their journey within Rotaract.

The Assistant District Rotaract Chair for 2024–2025, Rtr. Nimesha Jayamalni, also delivered an inspiring speech. She reflected on her Rotaract journey and lauded the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura as one of the most outstanding clubs. Her words further motivated the members to continue their legacy of excellence and service.

As the event concluded, the atmosphere was filled with hope, enthusiasm, and determination. With the new leadership at the helm, the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura is ready to embark on another year of impactful service, fellowship, and growth. Rotaract Club of University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance takes immense pleasure in conveying their heartiest wishes to the incoming president Rtr. Radiyah Hassan and his board of directors to do great things in the future and to achieve even greater milestones.
