Recognizing the exceptional efforts in this domain, we present the gold, silver, and bronze winners for the “Most Outstanding Professional Development Initiative – Training and Skills Development.”

Gold – Project “LEAD” by the Rotaract Club of Kandy

Project LEAD, a stellar initiative from the Kandy Rotary family, clinches the gold for its remarkable focus on leadership training and interpersonal skills development. The collaboration between the Rotaract Club of Kandy, the Rotaract Club of Kandy, and other Interact Clubs has created a transformative platform for over 80 Interactors. This two-day training session, held at the National Institute of Cooperative Development (NICD), Kandy, was a testament to the commitment of the Rotaract family. Led by PHF Captain Ravindra Thammita, the Youth Service Director from the Rotaract Club of Kandy, the participants engaged in hands-on training for leadership and team building facilitated by professionals from various sectors. The intensive training was not just educational but also filled with fun and engaging activities, culminating in participants receiving certificates to recognize their dedication. With plans underway for the upcoming session in December, Project LEAD continues to be a beacon of skills development in the Kandy Rotary family.

Silver – Joint Project “Data Storm” by the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa and the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo

Data Storm 4.0, powered by OCTAVE, the John Keells Group Data and Advanced Analytics Center of Excellence, secures the silver award for its outstanding contribution to skills development. Serving as Sri Lanka’s Premier Advanced Analytics Competition for the fourth consecutive year, Data Storm 4.0 provided a platform for university students to showcase their skills in solving real-world problems using the latest technologies. The comprehensive event included two introductory webinars, two masterclasses, storming rounds, semifinal case cracking, mentoring sessions, and a grand finale held at the University of Moratuwa. The winners, Team Milkman, Team BrainLeftException, and Team Hellcats, received cash prizes for their outstanding performances. This competition not only fostered skills in data analytics but also provided invaluable learning experiences for the participants.Bronze – Project “Leaders Born Today” by the Rotaract Club of Ratnapura

The bronze award goes to the “Leaders Born Today” initiative in RAC Ratnapura, showcasing its commitment to skills development in the professional arena. The Rotaract Club of Rathnapura initiated the “Leaders Born Today” program to cultivate young leaders in the community, addressing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program, initially implemented for the Prefect Board of Eheliyagoda Central College, utilized lectures, movies, and group activities to impart practical leadership skills. Despite initial hesitation, participants showed transformative engagement, earning praise from school authorities and benefiting the professional development of club members.

Buoyed by the success of the first phase, the club expanded the initiative with “Leaders Born Today – II,” reinforcing leadership skills. Rtr. Yasiru Bandara continued as a resource person, guiding participants through tasks and exercises. Positive feedback from students underscored the program’s effectiveness. To sustain progress, an online leadership session, “Leaders Born Today – II,” was organized for club members interested in enhancing their leadership qualities, led by Rtr. Yasiru Bandara. The initiative aimed to explain leadership essence, practice leadership traits, address challenges faced by leaders, instill responsibility, inspire leadership in others, provide insights on managing the economy and lifestyle, and raise awareness about gender equality. The Rotaract Club of Rathnapura successfully created a positive impact on young leaders, setting an example of effective leadership within the community. In conclusion, these initiatives from Rotaract Clubs highlight the concerted efforts to foster leadership, enhance interpersonal skills, and provide valuable learning experiences for university students.
