12th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law, University of Colombo

 

In an impressive display that emanated motivation and camaraderie, the 12th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law, University of Colombo unfolded at the New Arts Theatre, University of Colombo on August 21st, 2023. With the ceremonial lighting of the oil lamp, the event marked the beginning of a new chapter. The occasion was graced by the presence of distinguished individuals, including The Chief Guest for the event the Dean of the Faculty of Law University of Colombo Prof. Dr. Nishantha Sampath Punchihewa. Representing RACUOCFMF the President of the Club Rtr. Vishvi Wijetunge and the Secretary of the Club Rtr. Melisha Gonaduwa attended this event on this beautiful evening.

The ceremony commenced with the ringing of the bells, as the Sergeant-at-Arms Rtr. Sahanya Amandee called the house to order, leading to a harmonious rendition of the national anthem that filled the auditorium. The customary Rotaract formalities ensued, the essence of the club was highlighted in the Rotaract song that resonated through the hall, uniting hearts and voices.The spotlight then turned to the outgoing Secretary, Rtr. Chethana Liyanage, as she presented the Secretary’s Report for the year 2022-23. With meticulous detail, she revisited the milestones achieved, the outgoing secretary delivered the report for the last year, reminiscing about the service rendered by the club and the growth it has achieved within 365 days. Projects such as ‘Samatha’, ‘Maatha’, and ‘Legal Aid’ were highlighted due to the impact they created on the Rotaract movement during this speech. As she bid goodbye to her role, Rtr. Chethana expressed her gratitude for the remarkable journey and the exceptional individuals she encountered along the way.The stage was then handed over to the intro of the mastermind of the club’s 11th chapter, the outgoing President Rtr. Asher Dias Abeysinghe. Then a heartfelt speech followed, where Rtr. Asher Dias thanked his Board of Directors for their unwavering support, The most awaited moment of the event arrived as Rtr. Asher Dias passed the baton of leadership by collaring Rtr. Hansaka Heiyanthuduwa as the Incoming President for the RI year 2023-24. He also commended Rtr. Hansaka Heiyanthuduwa and his team, affirm his faith in their ability to elevate the club to greater heights.Next, it was time for the Incoming President for the RI year 2023-24 Rtr. Hansaka Heiyanthuduwa, taking the floor Rtr. Hansaka expressed his excitement for the journey ahead, raising a toast to the unwritten chapters awaiting the club’s embrace. He mentioned that they have a rich tradition of empowering young minds to become compassionate leaders and change-makers. He also stated that “our actions have the potential to create a ripple effect of goodness that reaches far beyond our immediate surroundings”. He stated that the theme for this year is “A New Hope”, and he winded up his speech by mentioning that it is important to remember that leadership is not about titles or positions; it’s about the impact we create and the lives we touch.

She expressed her happiness to be part of such a significant initiative. She concluded her speech by congratulating the outgoing president and his team and wishing the incoming president and his team all the best for their term. To take a small break from the proceedings, The audience was entertained by the talented Rotaractors of the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law, University of Colombo with a beautiful musical session. After The Chief Guest for the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Law University of Colombo Prof. Dr. Nishantha Sampath Punchihewa addressed the gathering. Finally, The secretary Rtr. Nimuthu Siriwardana delivered the vote of thanks and Felicitations were given out by guest clubs, the event was concluded with refreshments and the tokens of appreciation were distributed to all the dignitaries.

It was truly an honor to represent RACUOCFMF at this event and we warmly congratulate the incoming president Rtr. Hansaka Heiyanthuduwa and his board of directors for a fruitful year ahead. The Installation Ceremony was not just an event; it was a celebration of dedication, commitment, and teamwork that has driven the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law, University of Colombo to make a difference in society.
