The Rotaract Club of Royal Institute of Colombo welcomed a new chapter of service, leadership and fellowship with its Installation Ceremony for the RI Year 2026-27, held on the 23rd of August 2026. The ceremony commenced at 2:45 p.m. with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolising the beginning of a new year of service and fellowship. The proceedings were hosted by Rtr. Tiara and Rtr. Malik, who guided the event throughout. The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest, Ms. Madusha Jayasena, Head of Academic Affairs at the Royal Institute of Colombo and Chief Coordinator of LLB, together with Rtr. IPP Gnanakumar Sithambaram, Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Colombo South, Rtr. Shehantha Dias, Rotaract Past President and Rtr. Dr Shanon Lucian, District Rotaract Representative. Bringing together Rotaractors, distinguished guests, officials and well-wishers, the ceremony marked a meaningful transition of leadership and the beginning of another promising chapter for the club.
The Secretary’s Report for the RI Year 2025-26 highlighted a year of growth, dedication and meaningful service by the Rotaract Club of Royal Institute of Colombo. During the year, the club welcomed 49 new members, recorded 9 outbound transfers and 1 inbound transfer and successfully completed 40 projects across various avenues. The club carried out a diverse range of initiatives, including community awareness programmes, the 12 Days of Christmas, fundraising projects, international service initiatives, professional development activities, public relations and editorial work, sports activities and membership-focused programmes. These accomplishments reflected the collective commitment of the Board and membership towards creating meaningful experiences and contributing to the community through Rotaract.
The outgoing President reflected on a presidency that was unexpected yet deeply meaningful, highlighting the values that make Rotaract truly special. The speech emphasised service, friendship, learning and personal growth, while reflecting on the relationships and experiences built throughout the year. The outgoing President extended warm congratulations to Incoming President Rtr. Anithra De Alwis and the newly appointed Board, while tokens of appreciation were presented to the outgoing officials in recognition of their dedication and contribution. The transition served as a reminder that leadership is not simply about holding a position, but about the relationships built, lessons learned and memories created along the journey.
The newly appointed President, Rtr. Anithra De Alwis, officially assumed leadership as the 7th President of the Rotaract Club of Royal Institute of Colombo. Reflecting on her Rotaract journey from General Member to Club Service Director and now President, she expressed her gratitude to everyone who had supported and encouraged her throughout the years. Introducing the theme for the new RI Year, “Serve with Purpose, Impact with Passion,” she highlighted the importance of growth, meaningful experiences and progress over perfection. Her message was beautifully captured through the words, “There is no prize to perfection, only an end to pursuit.” The theme sets the foundation for a year focused not only on achieving milestones but also on creating purposeful experiences and leaving a meaningful impact through service.
The 2026-27 Executive Committee and Board of Directors were officially introduced, with Rtr. Nithila Kularatne and Rtr. Sathurshan Vigneswaran as Vice Presidents, Rtr. Abdulla Alikhan and Rtr. Disala Samaraweera as Joint Secretaries and Rtr. Shekani Perera as Assistant Secretary. The team further includes Rtr. Chanumi Jayasekara as Treasurer, Rtr. Damsuwi Karunarathne as Assistant Treasurer, Rtr. Yassas Ranaweera as Sergeant-at-Arms, Rtr. Sumaiya Fazly as Editor, Rtr. Vishwinie Perera as Head of PR and Directors representing Club Service, Community Service, International Service, Professional Development, Finance, Public Relations and Sports.
The District Rotaract Representative, Rtr. Dr Shanon Lucian, added another powerful dimension to the ceremony through an inspiring address to the incoming Board. The Board was encouraged to choose courage over comfort, take calculated risks, push boundaries and pursue ambitious projects. The importance of member engagement was also emphasised, with the new leadership encouraged to ensure that every member experiences the true value of Rotaract. Two powerful messages captured the essence of the address: “You succeed when you choose courage over comfort,” and “Every member lost is a story that your club will never get to tell.” These words challenged the new Board to build not only successful projects but also a club where members feel connected, valued and inspired to contribute.
The Installation Ceremony concluded as a meaningful celebration of both the past year and the journey that lies ahead. The sight of the outgoing Board and officials standing together symbolised the transition between the 2025-26 and 2026-27 leadership teams, serving as a reminder that every leadership journey eventually becomes part of the club’s story. More than simply a change of office bearers, the ceremony celebrated the achievements, relationships, lessons and memories of the past year while setting the stage for a new chapter of service and leadership. As the Rotaract Club of Royal Institute of Colombo steps into its new RI Year, the journey ahead is guided by a clear message: “Serve with Purpose. Impact with Passion.”
