WHY “TOUCH GRASS” IS ACTUALLY GOOD ADVICE

In today’s digital world, we spend a huge part of our lives online. From scrolling through social media to watching videos, chatting with friends, searching for important information and keeping up with endless trends, it is easy to forget that there is a whole world outside our screens. This is where the phrase “touch grass” comes in. Although it may sound like a funny internet expression, it carries a surprisingly meaningful message, “the importance of periodically stepping away from the digital world and reconnecting with real life.”

When we spend long hours on social media, constant notifications can sometimes make us mentally tired and overwhelmed. Online comparison can also create unnecessary pressure, as people usually share only the best moments of their lives through their accounts. Seeing these carefully selected highlights may make us feel that we are falling behind or that our own lives are not progressing fast enough. This can create unnecessary stress and remind us why it is important to maintain a healthy balance between our digital and real lives.

One major benefit of spending time outdoors is reducing stress. Taking a short walk in a park, sitting under a tree, playing an instrument or simply getting some fresh air can help us feel more relaxed. Spending time in nature provides a peaceful change from the constant stimulation of the digital environment and gives our minds a chance to rest and recharge.

Touching grass encourages us to enjoy the present moment. It allows us to notice nature, appreciate our surroundings and share everyday experiences with our loved ones. This helps us build a stronger connection to reality and reminds us that life is much more than social media, online drama and digital problems.

Touching grass also helps us break unhealthy screen habits. Social media is designed to keep us scrolling and we can easily lose track of time while using it. Taking a short break outdoors can help us step away from our screens and return to our studies or work with better focus.

Most importantly, “touching grass” does not literally mean sitting on a lawn. The main idea is to maintain a healthy balance between our digital lives and the real world. Technology is useful and plays an important role in our lives, but we should not allow it to control how we live.
