As undergraduates, we’ll eventually be there, at one end of the table staring at your potential employer, or even more frightening, a panel of interviewers soon… Panic! Panic! Panic!
Hence, Face It 101, a video series on CV writing and interview skills was created with the primary objective of enlightening our undergraduates on the art of CV writing and helping them prepare for an interview to successfully land their dream job while taking advices from the pros.
Preparing for an interview may be daunting, but there are numerous steps you can take to ensure a successful interview. When prepared, you will feel much more in control. You’ll have predicted what questions would be asked in the interview, you’ll have learned a lot about the industry, and you’ll be cool, calm, and collected. Well nearly!
This initiative comprised of 2 phases namely a short video series and a webinar on developing effective CV and interview skills.
Under the short video series, our keynote speaker Miss Selaina Perera from AM training and Development at the Kingsbury Hotel, gave valuable insights on mastering CV writing and the job selection process, which is becoming more and more demanding as companies are warier about making the right choice.
She highlighted how preparing for an interview primarily means taking time to thoughtfully consider your goals and why you should perform research on the company to understand why you would be a good fit.
The first 4 videos dedicated to facing interviews focused on first impression where you showcase your confident personality, preparation the key to put up a good performance, how a candidate should behave and concerns related to asking questions in an interview.
The rest of the videos emphasized the significance of creating a successful CV including how a CV makes first impression, what to include in a CV and how long it should be.
Bernard Kelvin once said,
“Your CV is just a commodity, Package yourself.”
Moving on to the webinar, which was conducted on the 6th of May 2022 via the Zoom platform by Mr. Prasad Udugampola, the Chief Human Resource Officer at Siyapatha Finance PLC, he shared more elaborated ideas to our undergraduates on Interview Facing Skills and making a great first impression.
Moreover, Rtr. Saseni Wijegunawardane, who skillfully moderated the session kept the viewer’s eyes peeled until the very end!
It is worth mentioning that the audience closely followed the webinar presentation in real-time and earnestly engaged with each other, leading to the sharing of highly insightful information.
Finally, for us, ‘Face It 101’ was a wonderful experience that came into action due to the perfect synergy and guidance of our 2 amazing mentors Rtr. Navinda Meepe and Rtr. Sandali Jayasinghe.
Our only hope is to inspire similar projects which may provide the opportunity for our undergraduates to meet up with professionals and give a sense of direction to carve their career pathways.
Kudos to all the geniuses behind the achievement and the excellent teamwork put in to pull it off!
