JOY 5.0

JOY 5.0 was a collaborative Twin Club Agreement project conducted for the fifth consecutive year by the Rotaract Club of University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance and the Rotaract Club of Lamahi, Nepal. This long standing partnership continues to strengthen international fellowship, cultural exchange, and meaningful community engagement between the two clubs. The project was carried out under the guidance of Rtr. Trilochana Murugadas and Rtr. Savidya Ketawalage, and was successfully concluded by the project chairpersons Rtr. Kihansa Wickramasinghe and Rtr. Vijan Thennakoon, together with a dedicated team of twelve committee members. This joint initiative was organized to commemorate Valentine’s Day, emphasizing the spirit of compassion, friendship, and the exchange of joy among communities and cultures. The target plan and execution of the project were discussed and finalized by both clubs through collaborative planning sessions. The Rotaract Club of University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance unfolded the project in four phases, while also incorporating the Twin Club Agreement criteria.

Phase 1 – Spreading Joy at Boys Industrial Home

The first phase of JOY 5.0 focused on community engagement through a visit to the Boys Industrial Home in Wellawatte on 18th February. The home accommodates schoolboys between the ages of 10 to 19, providing them with guidance, education, and care. Members of the project team spent a memorable and meaningful day interacting with the boys through a variety of fun and engaging activities. The session included games, group interactions, singing sessions, and team-based challenges designed to encourage participation and laughter. Several recreational games such as memory games, sports activities, and fitness challenges including push-up competitions were organized, which brought out the enthusiasm and energetic spirit of the children. In addition to the activities, the team distributed gifts, snacks, food, and beverages to the boys. These small gestures created a joyful atmosphere and helped build a warm connection between the Rotaractors and the children. Our committee members shared motivational inspirations with them to uplift their education and we sang songs with them while they played instruments. The home was guided by a supportive supervisor who has been working diligently to ensure the well-being and development of the boys. The visit was truly a heartwarming and fulfilling experience, as the smiles and excitement of the children reflected the success of the initiative. This phase perfectly embodied the essence of the project sharing happiness and creating meaningful moments with young minds.

Phase 2 – Cultural Exchange with Nepal

The second phase of the project focused on strengthening international fellowship through a cultural exchange session with the Rotaract Club of Lamahi, Nepal. This interactive online session was conducted via Zoom on the 27th of February from 8 pm onwards. During the session, members of both clubs presented their unique cultural identities through engaging presentations and discussions. Chairpersons and committee members showcased various aspects of Sri Lankan culture, including traditional arts, heritage, cuisine, cultural practices, and elements of modern creativity. Similarly, the Rotaract Club of Lamahi introduced participants to the vibrant culture of Nepal, sharing insights about their traditions, lifestyle, and heritage. The session also included icebreaker activities and interactive Q&A segments, allowing members to connect in a friendly and engaging manner. Overall, this phase not only enhanced cultural awareness but also strengthened the bond between the two clubs through both fellowship and formal engagement. This phase also marked the first Joint General Meeting held between the two clubs under this project. Following the cultural exchange, both clubs proceeded with the joint general meeting, where members shared updates about their respective clubs, ongoing initiatives, and future plans. This created a platform for stronger collaboration and mutual understanding.

Phase 3 – Joint Bulletin “Compassion”

The third phase of JOY 5.0 involved the creation of a joint bulletin titled “Compassion.” Although inspired by the theme of Valentine’s Day, the bulletin emphasized the broader message of spreading kindness, sharing joy, and uplifting communities. This bulletin was developed collaboratively by the Board of Directors, project chairpersons, committee members, and the blog team. It included reflections from the project, messages of compassion, and creative contributions aligned with the theme. The completed bulletin was officially published on the FMF Blog on 16th March (Monday), allowing the initiative to reach a wider audience while preserving the memories and impact of the project.

Phase 4 – Joint General Meeting

The final phase of JOY 5.0 was conducted as a Joint General Meeting held on 18th March with the Rotaract Club of Lamahi. During this session, both clubs reflected on the successful completion of the project and shared their experiences, insights, and outcomes. Members discussed the impact created through each phase, particularly highlighting the community engagement initiative and the cultural exchange program. The meeting also served as a platform to review the project as a whole, appreciate the efforts of both teams, and further strengthen the partnership between the two clubs. It marked a meaningful conclusion to the project while reinforcing the spirit of collaboration and international fellowship.

JOY 5.0 successfully demonstrated the power of collaboration, compassion, and cultural exchange. Through community engagement, international fellowship, and creative initiatives, the project embodied the true spirit of Rotaract; service, friendship, and global understanding. By continuing this Twin Club Agreement for the fifth time, both clubs reaffirmed their commitment to building lasting partnerships and creating meaningful impact across borders.
