Why Curiosity Is More Powerful Than Intelligence – SDG 04

You could be anyone reading this article right now, but what if I told you that you aren’t an intelligent person? Would you accept it?

I know you wouldn’t.

To be very honest, you cannot find anyone in this world who is completely devoid of intelligence, nor can you find someone who possesses absolute intelligence. Everyone, at some point, excels at a particular thing and is intelligent in their own right. But have you ever thought about how we become intelligent in a specific area, whether that is studying a particular subject, learning a new skill, or even grasping a new theory? Perhaps some of you have thought about it, while others have not.

Curiosity is the powerhouse and triggering tool that helps us achieve high levels of intelligence, but we cannot say that curiosity and intelligence are the exact same thing. Curiosity is an intrinsic desire to learn, explore and understand. Have you ever come across someone who stays highly curious throughout their life? When you meet people with this personality trait, they are always active, just like a fish moving here and there in the water. They explore a lot, try new things, research what they are fond of and keep working because they are driven by a passion for the unknown, wonder and intrinsic rewards. Being and staying curious acts as an engine that fuels people to move forward. It typically encourages a person to stay focused, step out of their comfort zone and take risks in everything they do.

On the other hand, intelligence is an operational capability measured through analytical, logical and verbal skills. This determines the speed and accuracy with which an individual can learn fast, think logically, adapt to complex matters and recognise patterns abstractly. In short, it is the ability to learn, acquire, master and apply knowledge to solve everyday practical problems.

So, how are curiosity and intelligence interrelated? The truth behind their connection is that curiosity drives intelligence. The more curious you are and the more consistently you apply that curiosity to a specific matter because of your deep interest, the more intelligence you develop. This consistency makes you intelligent enough to quickly grasp things you are fond of, whether it is a new soft skill or a theoretical concept. Therefore, curiosity is more powerful and significant than intelligence simply because staying consistently curious will ultimately lead you to become more intelligent.

Try to stay focused, just like an active fish and let your curiosity guide you toward developing greater skills and intelligence in life.
