The 11th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Kelaniya

The 11th installation ceremony of President Rtr. Kasun Sigera and his Board of Directors for the year 2017/18 was held on the 16th of July 2017, at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Auditorium, Colombo. Rtr. Pulara De Silva and Rtr. Ayesha Samarathunga attended the event on behalf of our club.

The proceedings for the day began with the lighting of the oil lamp by the dignitaries followed by the flag salutation, Rotaract invocation, four-way test and the Rotaract song. The dignitaries were then invited to take their respective seats at the head table.

Rtr. Amal Attapattu, the chairperson of the event then warmly welcomed the gathering. Afterwards, the Secretary’s Report for the year 2016/17 was presented by Rtr. Thanushki Adhihetty along with a video clip highlighting the projects carried out during the year. Some of the major projects carried out were, “Think Pink” and “Handball Tournament”.

Next, the outgoing President Rtr. Rukshani Adhihetty was called upon to address the gathering. She pointed out how the Rotaract year 2016/17 has given her the opportunity to improve her personality, knowledge and skills by ultimately giving something back to the society. She wished the incoming Board all the best for their term and also extended her heartiest gratitude to her very own Board for the support that was given in the year just concluded.

Following on, she collared the incoming President, Rtr. Kasun Sigera, thereby officially handing over the responsibilities of the club for the year 2017/18 and then the new Board for the year was inducted.

The gathering was subsequently addressed by the DRR Rtr. PP Anuradha Senanayake. In her speech, she highlighted the club’s unparalleled success in producing two past DRRs. She also acknowledged the work of the outgoing Board under the leadership of Rtr. Rukshani Adhihetty and wished all the best for the newly appointed Board.

Next, the District Rotaract Committee Chairperson, Rtn. PHP Bobby Shinivas addressed the gathering, acclaiming the club for their many great achievements and accomplishments while congratulating Rtr. Rukshani Adhihetty and her team on completing a successful year in Rotaract. He concluded his speech by wishing the newly appointed Board and stated that his fullest support and cooperation will be given for the club in the coming year as well. Followed by this was the launching of the official website of the Rotaract Club of Kelaniya by the Chief Guest, Rtn. PHP Nandana Kanakaratne and the DRR, Rtr. PP Anuradha Senanayake.

Next, the Chief Guest for the day, Rtn. PHP Nandana Kanakaratne, the President of the Rotary Club of Kelaniya gave an inspirational speech highlighting the fact that it is the youth who can make a difference in the society and emphasized the significance of giving back to the community. He also invited the Rotaractors to attend the general meetings of the Rotary Club of Kelaniya so that they can broaden their knowledge and can get the support of the Rotarians for their future endeavors.

The floor was then open for felicitations and the installation was brought into a successful end with the vote of thanks delivered by the Secretary for the year 2017/18, Rtr. Ayoma Perera, followed by the National Anthem.

The Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Management and Finance conveys its best wishes to Rtr. Kasun Sigera and his Board for a successful Rotaract year ahead.
