Ale Awurudu

“Cherish the children marching to their own beat, they play the most beautiful heartbeats”

Project Aale Avurudu which is an initiative of RACUOCFMF under the International Service Avenue with the collaboration of the Rotaract Club of Nepal was conducted to celebrate the unique cultural festivals of each country with children with special needs.

To start up the project, as the first phase the two clubs conducted an online meeting with the participation of members of both clubs to exchange facts regarding the different and unique cultural festivals celebrated in both Sri Lanka and Nepal. Here the members of the two clubs were able to get to know fresh ideas regarding the cultures of the two countries, where they also got the chance to get to know unique foods, dresses, and games related to these cultural festivals.

Then as the second phase of the project, RACUOCFMF conducted an Avurudu Festival with the kids with special needs at Surasa school and home for boys with special needs on the 21st of April. The day started with some unique cultural games connected to Avurudu where we were able to bring the seasonal feeling to these little hearts. Catching water balls, keeping an eye on the elephant, and carrying the lime on a spoon were some of the games conducted in which the boys actively participated and enjoyed. The boys also were really happy to meet us as they rarely meet outsiders, they freely talked with us and even danced with us which was a real satisfaction for us too.

Thereafter, we provided them with Avurudu sweet meals to make them also feel the season of Avurudu much more familiar. After the tea break, we continued with some more games like musical chairs, musical hats, best smile, best dancer, and Avurudu Kumaraya which was one of the most engaged and enjoyed events of the day. At the end of these fun-filled games, all the boys were gifted with books that included brain development activities and also the winners of each game were also gifted with other gifts. The boys were really happy since all of them received gifts and presents and also they were able to have a memorable day with us. In the end, we also donated dry essentials such as rice, dhal, sugar, and biscuits to the children’s home for their daily consumption. Even though we were not allowed to take photographs due to legal procedures of the children’s home to protect the children’s privacy, the memories stored in our minds will last for a lifetime.

The final phase of the project was conducted by the foreign club, Rotaract Club of Nepal. A Recreational Day with Students at Chhahari Nepal, Mid Baneshwor was conducted on 27th May. This special event is dedicated to bringing joy, laughter, and valuable life skills to the children at Chhahari Nepal.

During this fun-filled day, the members of the club were able to create a vibrant and inclusive environment where every student can participate and make unforgettable memories. The games and activities were planned such that all the children at the place were entertained and enhanced with teamwork, creativity, and personal growth.

So with that another amazing project came to an end which was conducted under the International Service Avenue of RACUOCFMF with the hope of the continuation of the project Aale Avurudu in the upcoming years too.
